Embrace of the Vampire Unrated + DVD Combo Pack (Blu-ray Review)

M2207513Embrace of the Vampire stars Sharon Hinnendael as Charlotte, a timid and sheltered teen who has just left an all-girls Catholic school for a new life at a co-ed university. But an ancient evil has followed her here, tormenting her with disturbing nightmares and tempting her with forbidden desires. It is a hunger that can only be satiated by sensual pleasures of the flesh…and a thirst for blood. It’s a battle for her soul… and one she’s losing. But Charlotte is a fighter. The chaos and torment threatens to unleash her own inner beast, and anyone even close to her may find themselves embracing their own horrific fate.  Embrace of the Vampire is a remake of the 1995 horror flick of the same name.  I haven’t seen the original and I can’t speak about how true to it’s predecessor this film is, but I can say that the 2013 version doesn’t make me want to go back and watch the first film. Comic-Con 2013: True Blood Panel at Comic Con 2013 – Vampires, Werewolves, Fairies….Oh my!

True-BloodEntering Ballroom 20 first thing in the morning, it’s clear that the majority of the fans nearby are not here for “American Dad”, “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy”. These are vamp-people and they are going to sit in this room all day waiting to see the cast of “True Blood”. The day before I attended a panel at Nerd HQ with Joe Manganiello, who plays Alcide the wolf. Joe handed out stickers with his face, height and weight on them. I used the sticker as a book mark and instantly drew a small crowd of curious wolf-lovers who were unable to see Joe. The number one question was “is he as big as he looks on television” and without hesitation I can honestly say he looks bigger. True Blood: The Complete Fifth Season (Blu-ray Review)

tbA vampire civil war is brewing and an old vampire foe has returned to wreak havoc on the human race.  Meanwhile, the denizens of Bon Temps are approaching a new crisis with Russell Edgington, Bill and Eric are in deep with the Authority and new threats from unexpected sources loom.  Although I am a die hard “True Blood” fan, over the last four seasons I have had my share of complaints about the show.  For example, I would prefer less werewolves, fairies, and other supernatural creatures.  Often this vampire show needs more vampire action.  I’ve been waiting to see the vamps turn on the humans, and show their true nature.  Even more importantly, I’ve been waiting for the Authority to really show it’s teeth.  Season five is definitely the season of the Authority, but the whole story line was fairly disappointing.  Season four ended with an unexpected death that actually caught me off guard, and left me dying to see what happened next.  What happened next was underwhelming – however, the characters Eric, Alcide and Jason take off their clothes enough that it’s still enjoyable for me.
