Slumdog Millionaire – The ULTIMATE Blu-ray Review

Well, we are a little overdue on this review, but our favorite reviewer around here has done it again.  Head on over to Into The Blu to read the ULTIMATE Slumdog Millionaire Blu-ray review.  The review is spot on, complete with Brian’s usual words of wisdom and insight.  In case any of you have been living under a rock as of late, the Oscar award winning film has captivated audiences around the world.  It’s kind of funny reading Brian’s review of how he is struggling so hard to combat his anti-Slumdog sentiments of how the film knocked his beloved The Dark Knight away from the Academy’s consideration. Ronin: The Blu-ray Review

Take a dive Into The Blu today and check out Gregg Senko’s newest Blu-ray review of Robert DeNiro’s Ronin.  In the words of The Bagpiper himself…”I remember back in the late 90’s when I saw the trailer for Ronin starring Robert DeNiro.  It looked like an international spy thriller, which, in my mind, was a role that was a bit out of sorts for the actor.  Then again, if the star is a good actor, and DeNiro is one of the best, than he should pull this off, regardless of what we’re used to seeing him play.  I never did get around to seeing it back then, so the film’s release on Blu-ray was my first experience with it…and what a great format to introduce yourself to a film.  Continue reading ‘Ronin: The Blu-ray Review’

Van Damme’s Kickboxer Punches Blu-ray

Wow!  This is going back in time to some wonderful childhood memories when I first discovered the “Muscles from Brussels,” Jean Claude Van Damme.  Kickboxer was one of Van Damme’s biggest domestic box office hits.  The film hit the theatres in 1987 and I remembered being glued to my television watching the VHS version of this movie over and over again, practicing Van Damme’s every move.  Ahh…to be young again…  Anyway, I am pleased to report that Lionsgate will be bringing Kickboxer to the Blu-ray format on June 16th as a special low priced Blu-ray.  So I would not expect much in the way of any significant extras or bonus features.  Continue reading ‘Van Damme’s Kickboxer Punches Blu-ray’

Slumming it on Blu-ray…

Excuse me but I am a little biased regarding this title since my favorite movie of 2008, The Dark Knight, was shunned from the Oscar it deserved.  So it really comes as no surprised that the Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire is being rushed to the Blu-ray format to obviously cash in on its recent award success.  Fox has announced a March 31st Blu-ray release date for their Academy Award-winning film.  Fans will be treated to a 1080P AVC MPEG-4 video presentation and a 5.1 DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio track.  Continue reading ‘Slumming it on Blu-ray…’

MBV 3D BD

How’s that for a cryptic post title?  Too obvious?  Yeah…I thought so too.  I am sorry I could not be more original.  It is Friday after all.  Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the horror remake My Bloody Valentine 3D to the Blu-ray format on May 19th.  Very cool is the fact that they will include both the 2D and 3D versions of the film and of course the 3D glasses.  There are no technical specs announced as of yet.  It is rumored to have a 1080P AVC MPEG-4 video encode with a DTS-HD Master Audio surround track.  Have a great weekend!

The Grudge Over The Blu-ray Release

What a way to end the week…with some disappointing news.  Fans of The Grudge will have to wait even longer now to bring home one of their favorite horror flicks on the Blu-ray format.  We first learned weeks ago that Sony would bring The Grudge to Blu-ray on March 10th.  I am sad to say that this is no longer the case.  We just learned that Sony will be bumping the release date by more than two months to coincide with the direct-to-video release of the Grudge 3.  This puts The Grudge on the Blu-ray format on May 12th.  The same extras we announced before will be present on the Blu-ray release.  We will see a 1080P VC-1 video encode, a 2.35:1 aspect ratio and a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround track.  Continue reading ‘The Grudge Over The Blu-ray Release’
