So am I the only one who had any issues with Amy Adams as Lois Lane? I agree the rest of the cast is spot on, but there’s something that bothers me about her that’s past the color of her hair. I just don;t know how I feel about the dynamics of their relationship. It felt forced and awkward. Almost Padme and Anakin like. It definitely was a game changer though. I don;t know. Like Sean says, I might like it a heck of a lot more during a second viewer…much later on.

Wow! Thanks Sean for the awesome feedback.
Here’s my consensus. My expectations were skyrocketing HIGH when I went into to see this. Maybe I’ll warm up to it the second time around. I did like this more than Iron Man 3, but I digress. However, I did not like it enough to support it financially in the theaters. I hope to find solitude with it on the Blu-ray format one day when it’s a good price. I know you’ll shoot me for saying this, but I have been judging everything by my number 1 film of the year Oblivion. Say what you want about it. Yes it’s a mismodge of a lot of sic-fi plots and whatnot, but I’m just enamored by the tight script, the scenery, the score, the people, the story and the resolution. Tom Cruise simply had my heart going piddily plot in that one. I loved it!
Now I will agree with you on the following and I’m sorry for stepping out of bounds. You are right. Hans Zimmer is NOT John Williams. What I meant to say is that he’s like him in a cult status way and one day when Mr. Williams is long gone, I’m hoping Zimmer replaces him (no you can never replace the man, but you can live up to him). Just my two cents.

While I disagree with you on this I think you’ve done a good job explaining your thoughts on it. And “Hans Zimmer is the new John Williams”? I don’t think so. John Williams is still very much with us and still the man. I loved Zimmer’s score for this film and think he’s a great composer, but let’s not shortchange the true master that the others must look up to!

Good review Aaron although I don’t agree with you 100%. Like usual for these superhero movies, WSB is once again split in our reaction. Usually, you and I are on the same page against Brian and Gerard, but this time I’m with Gerard. While I still love Superman II more than the rest, and Christopher Reeve is still my Superman, I did really enjoy this movie. The cast is fantastic as is the action and I found plenty of humor in the movie, so I’m not sure why you thought it wasn’t there. I did think that the film had some issues (especially some awkward edits) but overall I really liked it. I think Henry Cavill and Hans Zimmer had the hardest jobs to live up to and both did them really well. When I heard that John Williams iconic score wouldn’t be included in this film I wasn’t happy because that IS Superman, but Zimmer did a fantastic job while moving in a new direction like you said. I think I’m more in alignment with you than Brian but I think if you both watch the movie again, you’d both like it a lot more.

It’s funny how familiar I feel with Goyer’s work these days. There are certain lines that always stick out to me as ones he war responsible for, throughout his various superhero screenplays and always feel false, even Dark Knight, “Things are worse than ever!”

With this film, it just seems like they wanted to do Batman Begins again and outlined it as such, but forgot to add a true soul. The emotions are all on the surface, but it lacks the general spark that makes the Batman films more fun, despite how ‘serious’ they are.

I want to brand this line: “The drumming in Zimmer’s score makes me want to see a Superman film that soars, but instead, Man of Steel kneels before a limited screenplay.”

We can just delete my Superman review below. Yours’ is exactly my sentiments just packaged a little more cohesively and structured.

This is probably one of my most favorite reviews of yours. I never thought I’d see the day that a Nolan produced Man of Steel would get a Ghost Rider 2 score Just kidding.

THe only thing I disagree with above is Amy Adams as Lois Lane. Bwah! She just didn’t do it for me. She’s not Lois Lane. She’s that girl from Night at the Museum 2.

You think Goyer and Nolan forgot to outline? I thought the same as you with the lack of emotional arc. I just wonder how much better it could have been with Nolan behind the pen?

The fairy stuff annoys me to no end. I am also tired of the multitude of creatures. I’d love to see it get back to the Bill/Sookie/Eric story lines with more Pam thrown in. And Alcide shirtless.

That said, I’m looking forward to putting my two True Blood cookbooks to good use on Sunday, when the next season premieres.

at least things happened in Texas Chainsaw 3D. If Texas Chainsaw 3D was done Devil’s In The Details style, there’d be a person on the phone the whole time telling somebody what happens in the movie while Leatherface paces back and forth.

I wasn’t a Lords of Salem hater. Totally understood what Rob was doing with that one.

I tried watching this season twice. Got as far as episode 7 the second time around, but couldn’t make it. As a fan of this show, I found this season to be simply indigestible. And that’s sad considering how good it used to be before they brought in all this fairy garbage.

Saw it last night and I have to say if I was scoring it, I would have given it the same score you did. There was nothing wrong with it other than it just felt flat like it didn’t have enough gusto to make it to the finish line. Brilliant trailer as it got my money, but just didn’t deliver the hype it falsely promised. Happy to see it, but it’s a cable only viewing feature at best for me in the future.

The movie poster should read, “It all ends…horribly.” This rating, though far more appropriate than Brian’s extremely gracious 2.5 stars/dogs/etc., is still being kind. This quote sums up everything: “…this film is largely devoid of humor.” There is nothing redeeming about this movie.

Yes this movie was a bore and its title misleading. It is not about Lincoln so much as it’s about the Thirteenth Amendment. The Conspirator is no 5-star film, but neither is Lincoln. Tommy Lee Jones was great and even though Daniel Day Lewis is my favorite actor, I did not think he should’ve been the Oscar winner here. At least with The Conspirator we got to witness a landmark trial and how it was rigged, whereas in Lincoln we got to witness history told in its most dry capacity.

Despite the one continuity error that drove me crazy focusing on Sung’s forehead and the unbelievable action stunts, this definitely was a crowd pleaser and I’m thinking about going back for a second helping. I agree with you…fun as hell, but i think part 5 had this one by just a tad. Either way…high octane fun! Ain’t nothing but a good thing!

I know from reading this the movie sucked, but awesome review! Thanks for turning this around so LIGHTNING FAST. I’m so sorry the movie sucked. This is the first review I have read on this one, but from the sound of the film and the audio section the gun to the head picture above is a pretty accurate description of having to sit through this one, huh?
I’ve read good things about Pawn so I hope you enjoy that more.

All my talk? All I said was that I don’t care. And I specifically said I wasn’t not going to see it. If anything, the film had a good chance to impress me, which it did in terms of spectacle, to an extent, but I’m still just pretty meh overall. Kirk was less of a dick this time…so that’s something.
