It went the same route as other TV show remakes like 21 Jump Street and Starsky and Hutch. I didn’t find it that important, given how obvious that seemed and how many other things I found to say about the movie, but despite disliking the film, I can understand taking that approach. It just could have been done better.

Amidst all these Dark Shadows reviews, no one has mentioned that the movie was so far off the mark from the show that the two had little in common as far as delivery goes. The movie was goofy. The series was very much not.

I have to slightly disagree. Even though we both disliked the movie overall and I got basically what I expected, I can’t say that the jokes were ruined for me because of the trailer. Now I never watched the red-band trailer, but the majority of jokes (particularly the ones I laughed at) were either ones I had not seen or were different than what was shown in the trailer (lots of alternate takes).

There was a lot more potential here than what the movie put forth. What was really unfortunate is that the best parts were given away in the trailer. Whether it’s a movie or anything you’re selling, you should give a few high points to entice the customer to buy in and let them be wowed by the rest of it. If your whole sales pitch (in this case the trailer) is ALL your high points, then that doesn’t say a lot for the rest of the product/production.

We are pretty much in agreement although I think I enjoyed it slightly more than you. I’d give it three stars. If the story was more focused it would have been a lot better since they had everything they needed to make a great film.

Wow what a bust. I’ve found a good handful of horror films miss the mark in casting actors that are supposed to look young enough to play high school parts. Many look like they’re well into their college years. Beside, is there really any other horror movie this year than Cabin in the Woods? I’m having massive withdrawal from not being able to see that right now. What a fun, kick ass movie that was.

The town is overrated, and more like a feature-length, made for TV soap opera than a regular movie, imo. Having only seen the theatrical verson of The Town and not liking it very much, I rate it a 1 or 1.5 at the most.

The lingo may be but the script is still sharp and funny. I was surprised how much I liked this movie when it came out. This is Alicia Silverstone’s best movie and she was really good in it.

Just got back. I hated it. Hey if you like it, more power to you. However, I didn’t find anything clever about it and found myself laughing only half-heartedly and only twice. Depp is great as usual but the story was weak, the humor was weak, and overall it was just not entertaining and felt painfully looooong. Plus, how many climaxes can you have at the end of the movie? I’ve never felt so exhausted from not doing anything. Couldn’t wait for the credits to roll.

I believe a similar thing happened with Family Guy. When the show came back, it didn’t have the same atmosphere as its original run, but it was still funny and entertaining. The newer Family Guy episodes feel less special and more processed than the early ones (prior to 2003). Although I haven’t seen this Futurama volume, I can imagine the same thing has happened here. But that doesn’t make it bad at all, just less special than before.

Of course the best solution would be for the studio to make episodes in the same way they used to. But even though the newer ones are more lackluster, I still prefer to watch new episodes over old ones.

Overall, I think Futurama is funny, but Family Guy is one of the funniest shows I’ve seen. Futurama, however, gives us more likable characters, a more solid storyline, and a cooler and more immersive setting than Family Guy and that’s what makes it special. When I watch Futurama, though, I can’t help but feel I’m watching the same type of humor as the Simpsons (which I dislike).

Nonetheless, I will still buy this volume!

Yes, Johnny said that the horse saved his life. He did take a spill of the horse and was dragged 25 yards, the horse jumped over him clipping his back leg. Johnny looks fine from what I have seen of him promoting Dark Shadows.

While I thoroughly enjoyed this movie for what it is, not just because of the subject matter, I truly don;t believe it deserves that NC-17 label. Sure, again, there’s the subject matter, but come on! There’s so much worse out there that is Rated R.

IMO. The hoky dialog is what keeps this movie from a score any higher than a 4.
Now with that being said I did enjoy this flick.
But I think you meant to say that Chloe’s stellar acting actually raised the bar for Johnny to meet in their exemplary scenes together.
