DC Collectibles Suicide Squad Harley Quinn and Joker Statue (Review)

I kind of wanted to try something new on the site here.  Many years ago I became so smitten with the world of collecting (mostly Star Wars) that it got to the point of insanity when you have Master Replica lightsabers and Slave Leia’s in your kitchen, living room, office and basically anywhere you can think of because of lack of proper display space.  Couple that with the expense of having to haul all of that crap half way across the country in a move from Ohio to Texas and I swore I’d never do it again.  However, the itch has returned and has taught me a “valuable” lesson.  Never say never.  I quote the word valuable because let’s face it in order to really collect some cool items one must at least have some disposable income or else you’re very prone to go broke.  I would say modern day, pop culture brands like Pop! Funko and Jada Metals in the Suicide Squad (mostly Harley Quinn) and Batman v Superman lineups have been my undoing.  Thanks to them I’m once again a “Sucker For Pain.”  My fiancee didn’t help stop my itch with all the wonderful toys she got me last Christmas.  My co-worker has also been a bad influence too with all his collectibles he brings in.  They both made me itchier.  Ha ha.  So that brings me to the reason we’re all gathered here today…

If you’ve seen DC’s Academy Award winning film Suicide Squad last year, then there’s no denying that Harley Quinn loves her Puddin’ (aka Joker) and he loves his little monster (Harley).  So I’m a little late to this party as this DC Collectibles statue we’re gathered here today to discuss came out last month (since last August’s pre-order), but I’m just getting my hands on it today.  Therefore, it’s all new to me.  Sculpted by James Marsano and Erick Sosa this DC Collectibles 13.25″ tall statue of Harley Quinn and the Joker is based on the intricate detail likeness of Margot Robbie and Jared Leto from last summer’s Warner Bros. Suicide Squad film.  If you need a recap of the movie, try this brief summary/teaser DC provides us with below.

It feels good to be assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. Intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened Group of disparate, Despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every Man for himself?

So as I was saying this is a highly detailed, two-figure statue.  It’s supposedly limited to a stock of 5,000 and carries a manufacture retail price tag of $249.   Now one day Jordan Grout and I were sitting around a camp fire singing “Kumbaya My Lord” and trying to decide between what looks better, Harley in this statue we’re talking about here or in her own pose as can be seen here.  We both agreed the latter was a better representation of her because well the Joker doesn’t look so good in the stock photos provided of this statue set.  I’ll be the first to admit I was turned off by the goofiness of his face.  Thankfully as you will see in the below unboxing pictures any fears I had of this statue being inferior to others was quickly extinguished.  Both the Joker and Harley sculpts look amazing here.  Now I can go on and on with my rambling vernacular and slay any DJ that opposes me, but wouldn’t you rather let the pictures do the real talking?  Of course you would!  So let’s get started!

Click on any of the images below for maximum viewing pleasure.

*

Below are all 4 sides of the DC Collectibles box that holds our treasure inside.

*

And here’s the top of the box.  I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait!  Let’s crack this baby open already!

*

Um yes those are instructions on how to piece this duo together.

*

As you can see everything is housed securely in a styrofoam enclosure.  The word TOP in the styrofoam should display upwards before carefully cutting the tape around the edges.

*

In case you’re wondering Harley Quinn’s right hand attaches magnetically.  Be careful as her spike bracelet can come unattached prior to magnetic clasping.

*

The Joker basically just rests against and interlocks with the peg on the upper Harley Quinn piece.  Also take notice of the peg on the Joker’s foot and on Harley’s in the image up above.  That’s how they lock into the base.

*

Speaking of the base…it’s a dog tag like the ones seen in the film itself.

*

Bam!  Here we are!  2016’s it couple!  Putting all the pieces together and snapping them into the base is a breeze.  Now let’s take a closer look at all the intricacies below.

*

Check out the character likenesses in the faces down below.  Notice that all the tattoos are accounted for too including “Rotten” on Harley’s face, “Damaged” and his “J” on Joker’s face, the “Lucky You” on her belly, “Puddin” on her legs and so many more.  And yes those are real fishnet stockings.  Harley’s undies also have a different fabric feel to them.

*

Here’s a look from the top down as well as Harley and Joker’s footwear.  I knew I loved ADIDAS kicks for some reason.

*

Let’s take a look behind the scenes here.  LOL.  Notice Harley’s visible tattoo on her back side too.

*

Because we named our newest member of our family Puddin’ the image below is one of my favorite attributes to behold here…the visible Puddin choker Harley wears in the film.

*

Last but not least I wanted to call attention to how intricate this statue really is.  Check out Harley’s fingernails on her left hand.  You can make out the spelling of the word EVIL on her fingernails.

*

All in all I’m really happy with this DC Collectibles Suicide Squad Harley Quinn and Joker statue.  From the price tag it can be had at (currently sitting at ~$160 at the time of this writing on Amazon with same day shipping in select areas) to the likeness and sculpts of the figures you really can’t ask for anything more.  I had a fun time reviewing this and I’m hoping DC Collectibles sends me some more to detail and critique for you all here.  Until then I hope you enjoyed this first collectible review here on the site and if you’re interested in this limited edition piece before it sells out, hit up the link down below and bring this collector piece home today.  Thanks for reading!  However, if video is more your style, hit up this video review of this statue over here.  It’s nicely done and worth your time.
