Olive Films to release Yury Bykov’s The Fool and The Major

Olive Films LogoOlive Films is excited to announce the acquisition of all North American distribution rights to Yury Bykov films THE FOOL and THE MAJOR. The two films are currently available for theatrical and festival screenings; DVD, Blu-Ray and digital distribution will follow in Q4 of 2015.  THE FOOL and THE MAJOR are written, directed and edited by Yury Bykov and produced by Alexey Uchitel. Both films have garnered critical success at film festivals both in Russia and internationally.   THE FOOL is set to receive a two-week theatrical run at Film Forum in New York starting September 16, 2015. Olive Films plans to make the two films available on DVD, Blu-ray and digital distribution in the latter part of 2015.

Bykov’s third full-length feature, THE FOOL premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in 2014 where it won the Ecumenical Jury Prize for Humanism among other awards. The film tells the story of a one plumber’s attempt to save lives of the eight hundred residents living in a structurally unsound building, who then finds himself drawn into a world of dark secrets and cancerous corruption, where politicians and power players live by their own code and where tragic consequences are but a grim afterthought.

THE MAJOR premiered as part of Critics’ Week at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and went on to win First Prize, Best Music Prize and Best Directing Prize at the 2013 Shanghai International Film Festival among other awards. With a screenplay and direction by Yury Bykov, THE MAJOR is a modern day drama, telling the riveting tale of treachery, morality and the consequences of conscience featuring performances byDenis Shvedov, Irina Nizina and Ilya Isaev.
