Robin’s In Da Hood – ‘Robin Hood’ (Movie Review)

Robin HoodAfter many, MANY various adaptations of the same story, Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Alien) has directed a re-visioning of the classic tale of Robin Hood, with an all star cast including Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, William Hurt, Mark Strong, Danny Huston and Max von Sydow.  Many people say it looks just like another Gladiator, but my review will tell you why the trailers are completely misleading… as usual.  Check it out!

Thanks for the review and for saving me time and money. I was boycotting this film anyway, but now I have good reason after your review. This sounds kind of petty, but I simply can’t stand Russell Crowe movies and for some strange reason I feel I owe my undying allegiance to the Kevin Costner incarnation of Robin Hood. Call it what it is, but that’s just my tastes.

    How was Mark Strong????

I’m in pretty close agreement. It’s a well made movie with good performances, but it’s just not involving.

Brian you don’t like Gladiator, Master and Commander, L.A. Confidential, A Beautiful Mind, or any of his movies? AS for me, my allegiance is with Errol Flynn as Robin Hood although I did really enjoy Prince of Thieves despite Costner’s difficulty doing an English accent.

I also like Prince of Thieves, and Bob, Mark Strong was very good also. My bad for forgetting to mention him, as well as Max von Sydow.

@ Sean – I am in the minority here, but I did not like Gladiator. With the exception of the fight scenes, I found it to be a dull lifeless movie that felt like a blatant ripoff of so many movies before it. Despite the critical acclaim of A Beautiful Mind I was bored out of my mind watching it. I just don’t think Russell Crowe is right here. He does not belong as Robin Hood. Had it been a different director attached here, my feelings may be different as they would have picked a different lead actor. As for his other films, I stay far away as possible when I know Russell is attached except for that one Body of Lies. I saw that out of respect to Leo…ha ha

Well. I’m going to have to disagree with you on Russell Crowe. I think he’s a good actor and I liked Gladiator. He was also good in Cinderella Man. I think more people would have enjoyed this version of Robin Hood if they have followed the legend more instead of making it Robin Begins.

Yes Sean Russell Crowe is one of my top favs. He’s got serious talent. LA Confidential was incredible.
