In our previous adventures with our famed guitarista we had several revenge and closure story arcs to abide by. With Once Upon A Time In Mexico we have come full circle. Robert Rodriguez pulled a Sergio Leone. This was to be Rodriguez’s The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Was Robert Rodriguez successful? I suggest [...]

It’s the end of 2010, and with that I have a list of my favorite movies. The following list contains all of the films that I felt defined what I seek out in most films; namely that they have elements of entertainment, intrigue, or master craftsmanship when it comes to the filmmaking. Some may only have a few of these aspects covered, others may have all three bases dominated. Given my lengthy honorable mention section, there were certainly a good number of films that I had to choose from, but this list, I feel, represents the best of what 2010 had to offer theatrically:

To reference a review I wrote a few weeks ago, this movie has nice shoes. It is nice to look at, but to be fair, is it really that hard, these days, with a large budget, to not be able to make a movie set in Venice look that good? Regardless of the answer to that question, it is apparently hard to make a movie set in Venice that features two of the world’s biggest stars, is directed by a talented filmmaker, and written by a couple of Oscar winners any good. The Tourist is kind of a disaster. It lacks any kind of momentum, suspense, or entertainment (save for some random quips by an ill-equipped ((or just bored)) Johnny Depp). This film put me to the point of wanting to rather watch a movie about Paul Bettany’s character dealing with the boring bureaucracy of his job. But how do I really feel?

My good friend has a one-word saying where if something is just barely plausible in her opinion she will respond by saying “meh.” Honest to God, I can’t think of a better word to describe The Tourist. When she asked me today how the film was I was not quick enough to respond in the [...]

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland is a sequel of sorts to the original animated Walt Disney classic. It’s been thirteen years since Alice left Wonderland, and things have changed quite a bit in her life and also in Wonderland. This updated take on the classic story by Lewis Carroll, tweaked the original story in a [...]

You read about it in Rebel Without A Crew and now for the first time EVER, Robert Rodriguez’s El Mariachi comes home to the Blu-ray format on January 4th. Actually, all three movies in the trilogy will see a same day Blu-ray release. Exciting, huh?! I have been waiting a long time to see El [...]

This one was announced a few days back, but I wanted to get this out for all the Depp fans out there. While I did not get a chance to catch Alice in Wonderland theatrically two of our reviewers did. You can see their reviews here and here. So without further ado I wanted to [...]

Horror movies have never been my cup of tea and if my memory serves me correctly, I believe the original Friday the 13th was my first exposure to the genre. It scared the hell out of me as I was somewhere around 6 or 7 years old. My parents would never let me watch that [...]

I’ve never taken acid, but if I did, somehow I’d imagine the experience to run similarly to Tim Burton’s vision in his latest release, Alice in Wonderland. The trippy film has its moments in this tale that is actually a sequel to the traditional Alice in Wonderland that we all know. Alice (Mia Wasikowska) is [...]

Tim Burton and Johnny Depp continue their long collaboration that dates back to the early 90′s with a new version of Alice in Wonderland. The classic tale gets the big Hollywood treatment with great special effects, dashing duels, evil queens and a very crazy whacked-out Johnny Depp. Who can ask for anything more? But wait! [...]

At last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Director Terry Gilliam (Monty Python and the Holy Grail) appeared with actor Verne Troyer to promote the completed production of The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. The film stars acting legend Christopher Plummer as Dr. Parnassus, Lily Cole as his daughter (Valentina), Verne Troyer as Percy, Andrew Garfield as Anton, [...]

Welcome to our exclusive red carpet coverage of Spike TV’s Scream 2009 awards ceremony! If red carpet coverage of Scream 2009 is what you desire, then look no more. Words cannot express the exuberant hysteria that overcame my editor and myself, this past Saturday, as we covered the red carpet ceremonial entrance of the stars in [...]

Wow! It’s been a long Monday for me. Anyway, we have a little bit of Blu-ray news to cover so let’s get started. The Kong: Return to the Jungle Blu-ray has been officially delayed until January 26th. It was originally scheduled for release today. Universal is prepping the Johnny Depp & Christian Bale mob thriller [...]

Making his Comic-Con debut in 2009 was accomplished writer and director, Terry Gilliam. Not familiar with his work? I’d bet the farm that you are so let me connect the dots. Gilliam has worked on such films as Life of Brian, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and what will go down in film history [...]
