Will’s Top 10 3D Blu-rays of 2011

The third-dimension hasn’t been much of a discussion but more of a debate. You either hate it or love it. Some are fans of the depth that’s added to a movie’s visual presentation while others prefer pop-out effects that make you feel like you’re a part of the movie. The new Blu-ray 3D format has been questioned of its possible failure or success. 2011 had a slow start with 3D content being released, but by mid-year, the animation was popping out and by year’s end, the live-action films made way to the new format. Studio’s making certain titles exclusive with certain TV set brands has also made adopters of Blu-ray 3D frustrated. Making it very hard to view new content on a small market but finally during the summer, we started to finally see retail market releases for these exclusives. DreamWorks has decided to release their titles exclusively for BestBuy right now. Overall, 2011 was actually a pretty good release year for Blu-ray 3D with some hits and some misses here and there.  Continue reading ‘Will’s Top 10 3D Blu-rays of 2011′

When a mix-up lands them at Sunnyside Daycare, the untamed tots with their sticky little fingers do not play nice, so it’s all for one and one for all as plans for the great escape get underway. More than a few new faces – some plastic, some plush – join the adventure, including Barbie’s counterpart, Ken, a thespian hedgehog named Mr. Pricklepants, and a strawberry-scented teddy bear called Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear. Toy Story 3 dominated the box office when it was released (over 1 billion dollars!) and is currently ranked as the 5th biggest worldwide movie of all time.  More importantly to me, is that this movie was made with care and love and continues the ongoing storyline in a funny yet poignant manner.  Buzzing with hours of bonus features — and now on Disney Blu-ray 3D, Toy Story 3 is an unforgettable family experience.

Mars Needs Moms 2D/3D (Blu-ray Review)

Mars Needs Moms arrived at my door and I was thrilled to see a computer animated movie that my son and I could enjoy together.  It’s hard for me to wait until he goes to bed at night to watch movies and the movies him and I watch together get old quickly.  I put in the Blu-ray disc and after seeing the Disney logo my son is insistent that he wants to get in the car and go to Disneyland and then, based on the previews, all he wants to watch is The Lion King.  After retrieving the remote and skipping the rest of previews I have my son calmed down and focused on Mars Needs Moms and we’re ready to begin.  Mars Needs Moms is the story from Disney and Academy Award-winner Robert Zemeckis of a young boy’s intergalactic adventure to find his Martian-nabbed mother which came as kind of a surprise until I realized that this wasn’t a G-rated movie like I thought it was.
