Hansel & Gretel Slay The Blu-ray Format on June 11th

Honestly, I’m not sure what to expect with Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. And to be completely honest, I’m only wanting to see it for one exclusive reason…the beautiful Tamara Drewe…oops I mean Gemma Arterton is in it. Basically…you put her in anything and I will want to watch it. Even Evil Dead! Heck…even Famke Jansen is in it. Now I have two reasons. Oh yeah…there’s that Hawkeye guy too. And guess what folks. The film grossed 200 million and a sequel has already been green lit. So how bad can it be? I wanna see!!! Jurassic Park 3D (Movie Review)

I was sitting with a pretty, young lady some 21 years ago, waiting to watch Indecent Proposal, when a preview came on for Jurassic Park. I can still see the raptor’s eye peering into the kitchen window just before it fogged from the dinosaurs breath. My date grabbed my arm tight and said, “we are definitely coming to see this.” Twenty years later, she’s long gone but the movie is still going strong. This time, it’s in 3D!

Evil Dead Will Swallow Your Soul, Y’know – In A Fun Way! (Movie Review)

To bring some up to speed, I am a huge fan of the original Evil Dead trilogy. These films, directed by Sam “Spider-Man” Raimi and starring Bruce “Don’t Call Me Ash” Campbell, are ones that I watch every year in a marathon session and are known as cult favorites among many horror film fans. The idea of a remake could have been seen as sacrilege for a fan such as myself, but the fact that Raimi, Campbell, and producer Rob Tapert were behind the idea and heavily involved with the production made me hopeful. Given how the film played out, my optimism paid off, as this new Evil Dead is a wild ride that holds onto the spirit of the original, while amping up the quality of the blood, gore, dismembered limbs, vomit, and overall terror we see, thanks to the latest in modern technology when it comes to making this kind of movie. All of this and the film still managed to combine characters who take this stuff seriously with the wild and crazy fun seen in the film’s direction.

Willow (Blu-ray Review)

In 1988, director Ron Howard and writer/executive producer George Lucas teamed up to make a fantasy/adventure film called Willow. The story revolves around a reluctant farmer, who aspires to be a wizard, teaming with the greatest sword fighter in the land in order to protect a special baby from an evil queen during a magical, medieval time period. While only a moderate success at the time, Willow is still known for its revolutionary use of digital morphing technology, its epic score by James Horner, and the fun performances from Val Kilmer and Warwick Davis. The film has amassed a following since its original release and it is now available and better looking than ever on Blu-ray. Read on to learn more about this Blu-ray release.
Django Unchained (iTunes HD Digital Download Review)

And God I love this movie! Let it be know here and now that this review is going to be nothing but praise for Quentin Tarantino’s Christmas 2012 masterpiece…Django Unchained. ‘Wilfred’ Season 2: The Dog And His Man Return The June on Blu-ray

Wilfred is a strange sort of show that has a pretty strong following for a remake of an Australian series that happens to feature a grown-up man in a dog costume, who likes to get high with his best friend; a human named Ryan, played by Elijah Wood. With all of that said, it is a strange sort of show that I really like, especially in its second season, which was much stronger than the first. While Louie remains my favorite thing currently on FX (with Justified close behind), Wilfred certainly upped its game this past season and I look forward to revisiting it. On June 18th, everyone will have a chance to bring Wilfred home with them, as it will be released onto Blu-ray. Read on to learn more about this upcoming release.

Disney/Pixar’s Finding Dory to Dive into Theaters November 25, 2015!

Aside from Blu-ray press releases, these WonderCon posts over the past few days, and upcoming posts for Comic Con this year, I generally do not post various movie news and announcements for upcoming features, sticking to the reviews instead. That said, Finding Nemo is one of my favorite Pixar films and seeing news about the upcoming sequel does bring me a fair level of excitement, as I have a feeling it will be more in line with Toy Story 2 rather than Cars 2 (a film I did not hate like others, by the way). The film now has a title and a hint at what the story is about, so read on to learn more abou the upcoming Finding Dory.

WonderCon 2013: Superman: Unbound (Movie Review)

Friday night at WonderCon, audiences got to witness premiere of the new animated Superman film, Superman: Unbound. This is another entry in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies series, presented by Warner Bros., which has previously released films such as Batman: Under the Red Hood, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Green Lantern: First Flight, and Wonder Woman. For the most part, these animated adaptations of various DC superheroes and some of their most well-known stories have been pretty good, so I was excited to check out this new feature. I say that in a somewhat surprising manner for myself, because Superman is not a character I tend to enjoy that much. I only believe the character to be as interesting as the story that is written for him, so the fact that this film would revolve around Brainiac, one of Superman’s greatest foes, had my curiosity for sure. Fortunately, this was a mighty enjoyable film, thanks to the work done by many involved.

Breaking Bad: The Fifth Season Cooks on Blu-ray This June

I have to admit, I never heard much about this show other than my reviewer Aaron Neuwirth mentioning it over the past 4 years. Best Buy had a sale this past winter on the Blu-ray sets. I said what the heck and bought seasons one and two. I was hooked. And then much to my surprise, every one around me was too and we were all talking about it like religious fanatics. I even bought the digital files last December to catch all the way up with Season 5. And that’s my lead in to today’s topic…Breaking Bad: The Fifth Season has a Blu-ray release date. And that date…drum roll please…is June 4th. The Blu-ray will feature such bonuses as cast and crew commentaries, all-new featurettes, outtakes, deleted scenes, audition and rehearsal footage and much much more. Dwayne Johnson Stars In ‘Snitch’ Arriving This June On Blu-ray

Dwayne Johnson stars in the action-packed thriller, Snitch arriving on Blu-ray Disc (plus Digital Copy and Ultraviolet), DVD (plus Digital Copy and Ultraviolet), Digital Download, Video on Demand and Pay-Per-View June 11 from Summit Entertainment, a LIONSGATE company. I did not get a chance to watch Snitch in theaters, but I do like Dwayne Johnson and given that he’s starring in several films this year, I guess it only makes sense that I catch them all, right? Well, regardless, the film has a more interesting premise than the average action film, and I have heard things that suggest this is closer to being a character drama than an action film. I will find out this June I guess and really see how strong a film this is for The Rock. Read on to learn more about this upcoming release.

WonderCon 2013: Much Ado About Nothing

Following The Avengers, many were curious what the next thing for writer, director, and all-around geek icon Joss Whedon would be. Obviously taking on a modern day retelling of a famous Shakespeare play was the perfect project to take on. Okay, so maybe a Joss Whedon adaptation of the popular comedy, Much Ado About Nothing, was not the obvious choice, but that is what happened. Whedon called up many of his friends and shot this film in a couple weeks, using his own house as the set. At WonderCon, on Sunday, many fans of both Whedon and Shakespeare (presumably in equal ratios of course) showed up to the panel for this film and were treated to an expansive roster of panelists and some footage from the film that opens in theaters this June. WonderCon 2013: This Is The End

Recently, we have seen films like 2012, Melancholia, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, and even Children of Men, to an extent, depict what it would be like to see the world come to an end. Just to round things out, I guess, we now have the version of that story in a movie that stars comic actors Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, James Franco, Jay Baruchel, Michael Cera, and many more. WonderCon had a panel devoted to This Is The End, an apocalyptic comedy starring all of these guys as themselves, written and directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. WonderCon 2013: Evil Dead

Many of my friends know that I love The Evil Dead trilogy, the cult horror films from director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Oz The Great and Powerful) and star Bruce Campbell. I watch all three films (The Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness) back-to-back-to-back every year in October, involving as many people as I can in the process. The idea of remaking The Evil Dead could seem like something that I would be entirely against, but I was willing to hear it out, as Raimi, Cambpell, and producer Rob Tapert were the ones that wanted to do it. Essentially, if it had their blessing, I would be down for a new take on “The ultimate experience in grueling terror” (original tag line for the first film). Fortunately, everything I have been seeing and hearing so far has me quite excited, which is why I was looking forward to this panel for the film, taking place a week before its theatrical release. WonderCon 2013: Pacific Rim

Saturday was considered the most important day for WonderCon, at least as far as movie geeks were concerned, but the presentation for the new film from director Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth), the giant robots versus giant monsters movie known as Pacific Rim, was easily one of the most anticipated events of the whole weekend. While the no one from the cast made an appearance, people familiar with Guillermo del Toro should know well enough that he does not need a whole lot of help from others to really have him deliver an entertaining panel, given his charismatic personality, wonderful Mexican accent, and his hilarious use of swear words when talking about his passions. WonderCon 2013: The Conjuring

A quick introduction, as this is my first WonderCon 2013 article, I will have been in attendance all weekend for WonderCon at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California and hope to bring plenty of cool info regarding several upcoming films. First up is the new film from director James Wan (Saw, Insidious) called The Conjuring. This film is a supernatural horror movie based on a true story and James Wan came to Anaheim to present his thoughts on the film and show off some footage. He also brought with him the actual people whom this story is based on. Read on to learn more about this upcoming horror film, arriving in theaters this summer.
