WonderCon 2013: GAGERMAN & WALLER’S BLOOD BROTHERS – BEST FRIENDS…FOREVER

Dark Horse has announced a new comic miniseries that I could potentially check out.  I wish I had the time to be deeper into comics than I currently am right now, but I do what I can.  With that said, this new miniseries sounds pretty intriguing.  A vampire buddy action comic, with inspiration coming from the likes of Lethal Weapon.  That sounds like the kind of fun I could get behind, were I to have the time.  Regardless, read on to learn more about Blood Brothers, a new comic miniseries that has a presence at WonderCon 2013, even though the full issues will not start hitting until this July.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Reborn in 3rd Volume

Back in the early 90’s I was pretty big into comic book buying. Then I slowly faded from the pop culture media and it soon drifted out of sight, out of mind. It wasn’t until about 5 years ago or so that I decided to see what else was out there in the way of new titles these days. The first book I bought? Guardians of the Galaxy. It looked like a fairly off the wall, entertaining read. That certainly turned out to be the case but I continued on with the sci-fi rag-tag team of heroes. Apparently sometime between now and when I distanced myself from that series, it died out, which seems logical as it was getting rather tedious and boring. This week Marvel is proud to announce the rebirth of the series with issue #1 of Guardians of the Galaxy.

‘G.I. Joe’ 2: Cobra Strikes Back! (Movie Review)

2009 saw the release of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.  While that film was a financial success and has its fans, it did not quite set the world on fire in the same way that Transformers, the other Hasbro toy-based movie franchise did.  The consensus seems to be that it was too campy for its own good.  While I may disagree, the idea for this sequel seems to have been to make it a lot more earnest, while still maintaining a level of fun.  The results are good enough, even if the film is more of an equal, as opposed to a greater piece of work than the former.  Retaliation may be a sequel that really wants to disassociate itself from the first movie, despite continuing on with where the first film’s story left off, but despite being ‘more serious’, it still has a lot of inherent goofiness and ridiculous, but enjoyable action sequences.  I may not be the biggest G.I. Joe fan (I had Star Wars toys), but this still fits as the kind of movie I would want to see made from this franchise.

The Collection (iTunes HD Digital Download Review)

It seemed like a long wait, but the day has finally arrived when we get treated once again to the bloody gore and pulverized meat of last November’s The Collection, a sequel to the 2009 horror film The Collector, on Blu-ray, DVD and HD Digital Download.  The film sees Josh Stewart (Bane’s right hand man from The Dark Knight Rises) returning and reprising his role as Arkin alongside Emma Fitzpatrick, Christopher McDonald and more.  Marcus Dunstan is back in the director’s chair and also serves as scribe with Patrick Melton.  If you’re a fan of 2009’s The Collector at all, boy are you in for a treat here.  The Collection picks up right after the brutal events in the first film and really never lets you come up for air throughout its short 82-minute runtime.  Sound interesting to you?  Well…read on for more!  That’s why you’re here. The Men Who Built America (Blu-ray Review)

John D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford and J.P. Morgan rose from obscurity and in the process built modern America.  Their names hang on street signs, are etched into buildings and are a part of the fabric of history.  These men created the American Dream and were the engine of capitalism as they transformed everything they touched in building the oil, rail, steel, shipping, automobile and finance industries.  Their paths crossed repeatedly as they elected presidents, set economic policies and influenced major events of the 50 most formative years this country has ever known.  From the Civil War to the Great Depression and World War I, they led the way.  Using state of the art computer generated imagery that incorporates 12 million historical negatives, many made available for the first time by the Library of Congress, this series will bring back to life the world they knew and the one they created.  The event series will show how these men took a failed experiment in democracy and created the greatest superpower the world has ever seen.  We see how their historic achievements came to create the America of today.

Enter ‘Trance’ And Find The Reality In This Hypnotic Thriller (Movie Review)

I love how in the dark I was about this movie.  The reason I jumped at the chance to see Trance is because I love Danny Boyle’s work, as he always tackles a new genre and injects his kinetic style into it.  This generally makes for a film that is quite unique, regardless of its quality.  Trance also features stars James McAvoy, Vincent Cassel, and Rosario Dawson, providing me with another reason to have wanted to check this film out.  Knowing nothing about the plot of this film going in, I was quite pleased with the results.  Much like how Stephen Soderbergh recently dabbled into the realm of neo-noir with his latest film Side Effects, Boyle has also made a film with noir-ish elements, while also exploring the idea of false realities created by hypnosis.  It is an interesting story, with plenty of energy to keep everything moving, and the added joy of providing the film with the structure of a sexy thriller.

Take a Visit to ‘A Haunted House’ on Blu-ray This April

We’ve all seen these trailers, right?  Seems like there are like three of the same films.  But wait!  This one looks the best of all the spoofs I have seen.  Popularizing off the success of the Paranormal Activity franchise, the Wayans and Universal are bringing their comedic spoof, A Haunted House, to the Blu-ray format on April 23rd, complete with a Combo Pack that also includes a DVD, UltraViolet and Digital Copy.  Kudos to Universal for still providing all three.  And most importantly, as of late, their Digital Copies have been of HD quality too.  So thank you Universal.  You make this man proud.  So won’t you make me proud too by checking out the full press release below and pre-ordering your copy now to help support our site.  A million and one thanks!
