Aaron’s Top 10 Video Games of 2010

I don’t get a chance to write about video games often, so I am pleased to be able to provide a rundown of the games I have enjoyed playing the most this year.  I may not be a professional game reviewer, but I know what I like vs. what frustrates me in video games; and even in a time where my free time has dwindled (yes, part of my living involves watching movies and writing about them, but it’s still work, dammit!), I still managed to play a lot of games. Gerard’s Top 10 Blu-rays of 2010

Another year has come and almost gone, leaving in its wake, many Blu-rays littered about.  Some good, some not so good.  In what will be an ongoing tradition, WhySoBlu has asked for my thoughts on the best Blu-rays of the year.  The following article is MY personal top ten favorite Blu-rays of 2010 for your viewing and reading pleasure.  Please keep in mind that I have not seen or reviewed every blu-ray that has come out this year, so if you don’t see a film that you think is great that I may have missed, don’t be upset. I probably haven’t seen the Blu-ray or the post office lost my package.  Here is my list. Continue reading ‘Gerard’s Top 10 Blu-rays of 2010′

The A-Team (Blu-ray Review)

Seeing the trailers for The A-Team earlier this year filled me with dread.  It looked like another treasured television show from the 80’s was to be transformed into an atrocious full feature film.  All of that changed after I saw a new trailer for The A-Team in front of the Predators blu-ray.  It actually looked pretty good.  Not to mention that everyone who saw this in theaters said it was very cool.  I’m not one of those followers.  I’ll watch something first and then I’ll make up my mind as to whether it rocks or not afterward. Gregg’s Top 10 Films of 2010

There were some highs and some lows this year (at times, some real lows) at the cinema.  Fanboys rejoiced with the revival of the Predator franchise in addition to a certain comic book sequel brought to us by Jon Favreau.  It was a year of cowboys and dragons and dancers, oh my!  January brought us Jackie Chan in The Spy Next Door, and 2010 closed out with December’s star-studded cast in True Grit.  While my top ten Blu-ray list remained somewhat consistent throughout the year, this best of cinema list jumped around like five-year old at a birthday party. Aaron’s Top 10 Best and Worst Films of 2010

I have seen a lot of movies this year, which is nothing new for me.  However, this is the first year (a year that I have been very happy with and proud of) that I have been given much more of an important task when it comes to delivering my opinions (as nonessential as some may feel they are) about the films I see.  With that being said, the following lists are, what I feel, a solid compilation of the best and worst films of the year.  I have seen a lot of very good movies, and I have also seen a lot of very bad ones.  Regardless of how good of a year this was for movies, I would say that I had a lot of options available to me when developing these lists, so enjoy. Aaron’s Top 10 Blu-rays of 2010

As little time as I have to actually sit at home and watch all the Blu-rays I own and check out all the special features they have to offer, there are a certain number of films that I could not pass up when it came to checking them out at my own leisure, in the comfort of my own home.  The following list is set of films that I consider to be some of the best that the Blu-ray format has had to offer for this year. Continue reading ‘Aaron’s Top 10 Blu-rays of 2010’

Gregg’s Top 10 Blu-rays of 2010

Another year is almost in the books, and another year of top 10’s has already begun gracing the pages of Why So Blu.  No, not the top Ten Commandments; this bit’s about Blu-rays.  It looks like I’m up to the plate now for me to happily reveal what worked for me in 2010. There are probably some unexpected choices on here as well as others that are no surprise. Some Blu-ray releases even provided a better product than I was hoping for, which is always a welcomed change. From elves to GI’s and sports to music, the 2010 library covered the bases for me. I give you my best Blu-rays of 2010… Continue reading ‘Gregg’s Top 10 Blu-rays of 2010′

Billy The Exterminator Season Two (DVD Review)

The only thing better than Billy the Exterminator Season One is Billy the Exterminator Season Two!  Right?  To be completely honest, Season Two doesn’t have a lot of new things in it, but that is okay.  More Billy the Exterminator is a very good thing.  Season Two was just as entertaining as Season One.

Archer The Complete First Season: Giveaway Contest

ARCHER The Complete First Season arrives on DVD from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment on December 28, 2010 and we got 3 copies to give away to 3 lucky winners.  This FX original animated half-hour comedy series premiered 14 January, 2010.  The show is set at the International Secret Intelligence Service (ISIS), a spy agency where espionage and global crisis are merely opportunities for its highly trained employees to confuse, undermine, betray and royally screw each other.  TIME Magazine’s James Poniewozik wrote “If you want your action parody and office sitcom all in one, Archer may well be the spy you’ll love.” Continue reading ‘Archer The Complete First Season: Giveaway Contest’

Sean’s Top 10 Blu-rays of 2010

Making a Top Ten list of Blu-rays was a lot harder than I thought it would be.  The fact that there’s so many excellent releases that I haven’t seen yet just made it even harder because I know a lot of them would be on my list.  So I decided to make a list of the Top 10 Blu-rays that I’ve seen and most likely reviewed, and another list of Blu-rays that I really want to see and would most likely would have been included in this list if I had seen them. Continue reading ‘Sean’s Top 10 Blu-rays of 2010′

‘Little Fockers’ Was Kind of Focking Funny

I don’t know why I wanted to see Little Fockers more, for my love of the first two films or that the lovely Jessica Alba would be partaking in the newest entry of Meet The Parents?  However, I will say this.  I have become less and less enchanted with Mrs. Alba every time she opens her mouth in the press or types a new Twitter message.  Why do I follow or care?  Good question!  I have no idea.  But we’re not here to discuss that.  We’re here to find out how Little Fockers measures up against the previous two installments. Continue reading ‘‘Little Fockers’ Was Kind of Focking Funny’

Gregg’s 2010 Album of the Year

As of a few weeks ago, I had no intention of writing this article, simply because I had no material worthy of this honor.  The top 40 on the radio usually consists of “in the moment” tunes that may be decent, but come from albums that lack a solid performance from the first track to the last.  From where I stood, it was an anemic year for music.  Linkin Park brought us something new, but not necessarily something exciting.  The Black Eyed Peas’ latest work didn’t exactly send people to the moon either.  Another example is the band Daughtry, of whom I’m a fan.  Their collaboration with Carlos Santana covering Def Lepperd’s “Photograph” was uninspiring to say the least.  What’s that mean when even bands you like aren’t measuring up?  It means quality is going to hit you when you least expect it.  Continue reading ‘Gregg’s 2010 Album of the Year’

Brian’s TOP 10 Blu-rays of 2010

The calendar year of 2010 in the world of Blu-ray was a pretty easy one to judge, at least In my opinion.  But when I dwell on what 2011 holds in store, I’m nearly having an aneurysm thinking about all the competition such as the “Holy Grail”of Star Wars films and Tron: Legacy, just to name a few.  That’s going to be one hell of a year for Blu-ray.  So anyway, it’s still 2010 so I will stop digressing and getting ahead of myself. ‘How Do You Know’ When You’ve Wasted 2 Hours of Your Life?

How Do You Know? — Wow!  Look at the lineup…  America’s Sweetheart Reese Witherspoon, funny man Paul Rudd, popular actor Owen Wilson, screen legend Jack Nicholson and TV and movie mogul James L. Brooks involved in this one…  What could go wrong?  Anything and everything…  This 2-hour rom-com is neither romantic, nor comedic…  It’s ANEMIC!  Reese is torn between Owen and Paul, and Jack is Paul’s father, who has no problem throwing sonny-boy under the bus (sub-plot here…) when it’s convenient to his business life… Continue reading ‘‘How Do You Know’ When You’ve Wasted 2 Hours of Your Life?’

Despicable Me (Blu-ray Review)

This has been a great year for animated movies and Despicable Me continues that tradition with it’s unusual character of Gru who is voiced brilliantly by Steve Carrell and who seems to be a blend of Dr. Evil, Looney Tunes, and the Addams Family.  Aided by a multitude of not so bright yellow minions, Gru wants to be the biggest villain in the world.  His only obstacle is a young upstart named Vector (Jason Segal) who has the same goal. Step Up 3 2D/3D (Blu-ray Review)

I’ve seen and enjoyed the first movie in the Step Up franchise but I was not aware that a sequel was ever made until Step Up 3 was released.   The first and the third movies don’t have much in common, except for one character I noticed, and a lot of dancing.  A google search tells me that Step Up 3 carries over characters from Step up 2: The Streets.  Despite not having not seen the second film, I did not feel I was lost as Step Up 3 works well as a stand alone movie. Continue reading ‘Step Up 3 2D/3D (Blu-ray Review)’

SALT (Blu-ray Review)

SALT is one of those films, just like my recent review of Resident Evil: Afterlife, that fall into my guilty pleasure category.  I just can’t help it.  I am a glutton for punishment when it comes to attractive leading ladies and hardcore action sequences and believe me; SALT has plenty of the latter.  Now whether they are believable or not, well that’s a different story all together.  Nevertheless, despite a bunch of gaping huge plot holes and some truly unbelievable stunts and coincidences, I definitely “hearted” my trip to the theater this past July when I checked Angelina…oops I meant SALT out.
