I thought this was pretty cool. I just stumbled upon this right now before heading out the door. You can listen to Shakira’s brand new album, Sale El Sol, in its entirety before it hits stores next Tuesday. Click the image below to listen to the album now on Facebook! I must be feeling very generous today because I was also kind enough to embed her newest music video below, “Loca.” She’s looking good. I know Shakira is not everyone’s cup of tea, but even if it puts a smile on a few faces today, you’re very welcome! Continue reading ‘Listen to Shakira’s “Sale El Sol” Album Now!’

I can honestly say that I have never heard of this film. Have you? The movie critics are saying that CYRUS is both smart and funny, but I will let you be the judge of that when Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment brings the Jonah Hill/John C. Reilly comedy to the Blu-ray format on December 14th. Don’t ask questions, just click below to pre-order your copy today and check out the full press release if interested. One of my favorite actors is Mel Gibson, who despite his personal demons is one of the best actors to come along in the last thirty years. Able to convey both masculinity and sensitivity, he’s a rare actor that can work in any genre as shown by his long and illustrious career. That career was started by Mad Max a $400,000 Australian independent film that ended up becoming a huge hit and the start of a new franchise. Continue reading ‘Mad Max (Blu-ray Review)’

They give it “two fangs up.” They even say it’s the year’s funniest spoof movie. I say, who wants to review this movie for me? I want nothing to do with it. It mocks my people. But anyway, my job is to report the news, not give my opinion. Sorry. What was I thinking? Check out the full press release below from Fox in regards to the November 30th Blu-ray release of Vampires Suck. Continue reading ‘Vampires Still Suck Even on Blu-ray’

On October 9, 2010, many celebrities gathered to be a part of the 2010 Hollywood Celebrity Sporting Clays Invitational to benefit the City of Hope Bone Marrow Donor Program. The event was hosted by tough guy character actor and president of Uncommon Dialogue Films – Patrick Kilpatrick, and held at Triple B Shotgun Sporting Park in El Monte, California. Many stars, as well as Olympic medalists, veterans, and other competitive shooters participated in the event that was both good sporting practice and a way to give for a good cause. As Blu-ray secures itself as a faithful medium, you will find that more and more less-recent films are making their way to high definition. A highlight of 1992’s cinema résumé is Michael Mann’s remake of The Last of the Mohicans. Starring Daniely Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood) along with Madeline Stowe (We Were Soldiers), Russell Means (Pochohontas) and Wes Studi (Dances With Wolves), this story on the American frontier delivers a tale across an awe-inspiring landscape amidst the conflict between empires with natives caught in the crossfire. The people have spoken and the future is Blu. Wait! That makes no sense. That’s so 2008! What I meant to say is that Matt Groening’s Futurama: Season 5 will see a Blu-ray release on December 21st. Fans of the show have to be ecstatic! I never seen the show before, but I heard it is hilarious. But don’t worry about me. Check out the full press release below from Fox Home Entertainment and pre-order your set today! Continue reading ‘The Future Looks Blu for Futurama: Volume 5’

So here’s a film that really surprised me this summer. Who knew a PG-13 rated film could ever be so funny? I had no desire or fervor to even check this one out, but I was pleasantly surprised during my press screening of The Other Guys. What was I surprised about? Well quite frankly, I was surprised at how much I laughed and enjoyed this one. I thought I had enough Will Ferrell to last me a lifetime, but it turns out I didn’t. In fact, I’m ready for another helping when Sony unleashes The Other Guys on Blu-ray to retailers everywhere on December 14th. Continue reading ‘‘The Other Guys’ Stumble Onto Blu-ray in Dec.’

The Hangover was one of those movies that came out at the P-E-R-F-E-C-T time in my life. We all kind of have these back-stories with how we dealt with times of stress and the real life antidotes that helped us persevere through the seemingly impossible feats. For me, that was the summer of 2009. It was in July that my grandfather had just passed away from cancer, my dad was diagnosed with cancer and the love of my life (besides my wife), my dog, was also suspected of having cancer after having a tumor removed. The sequel to the last remake of Death Race will arrive this January! If you enjoy hardcore vehicular mayhem you will enjoy this series. While none of the stars of the last movie will appear in this one, it does boast some notable names such as Sean Bean, Danny Trejo, Ving Rhams, and Luke Goss. The last one was a lot better than I thought it would be and it was a fun way to see weaponized cars destroy everything in their path. Continue reading ‘Death Race 2 Speeds Onto Blu-ray Jan. 18th!’

It generally takes a lot for me to recommend a documentary on better terms than whether it was good or bad, or if it’s strong enough to catch in cinemas. Some, in recent time, have naturally led me to strong recommendations, like King of Kong or Murderball, which are very well made, but also edited to have a fairly linear plot line, despite being a doc. For docs such as this one, where the film has a lot of strong things to say about its subject matter, but also functions like a lecture or an info-dump, it can be harder to strongly get behind. A mildly entertaining comedy drama that functions like a John Hughes film set in a psychiatric ward. There are elements present that could have made this a much better movie, chief among them being the performance by Zach Galifianakis, but the overall tone of the film never quite pulls off being both effectively comedic and dramatic in the right fashion. More disheartening is that the lead actor’s performance is incredibly bland, which really does the film no favors. It is unfortunate for a director team coming off two better films. With any Spider-Man future pretty much dead and buried for Sam Raimi, the director now has the luxury of focusing his duties elsewhere, with his next project to be a prequel of one of the most heralded films of all time; The Wizard of Oz. Raimi will be at the helm for Oz: The Great and Powerful from Disney with the strong likelihood of Robert Downey Jr. as the leading man. Continue reading ‘Sam Raimi & The Wizard of Oz’

Wes Craven deserves some kind of recognition this year. Despite having to suffer through such duds as The Last Airbender, Jonah Hex, and even a remake of Craven’s own horror classic A Nightmare On Elm Street, somehow, Craven has managed to write and direct the worst film of the year, which is the best thing I can say about My Soul to Take. I am not one to be caught up in the star ratings I assign to movies, but while I may give only so many movies five stars, it is definitely rarer for me to give a movie half of a star. It is not something I take joy in; really, it just makes me sad. Continue reading ‘‘My Soul to Take’ is The Worst Film of the Year’

1999 was a great year for movies! On one side of the spectrum you had garbage like Star Wars: Episode I and on the other side of the spectrum you had great films like Three Kings which were moderate budgeted made films that made a moderate return on their investment. Three Kings was also one of the first Warner Bros DVDs to have tons of extras for viewers to dissect. Three Kings was also famous for igniting alleged spats onset, behind the scenes, and for its sheer bravado in film-making. Continue reading ‘Three Kings (Blu-ray Review)’

Tamara Drewe is a new film from director Stephen Frears (The Queen, Dangerous Liasons, High Fidelity), based on the popular English comic strip and graphic novel by Posy Simmonds, starring English actress Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia, Clash of the Titans). As is the graphic novel, the film is a modern reworking of Thomas Hardy’s nineteenth century novel Far from the Madding Crowd. It is a comedy about a young journalist, once the ugly duckling of her small village town, returning as a much desired beauty, hoping to fix up and sell her old house. I told my friend Allison that I would be attending a screening of Katherine Heigl’s latest rom-com disaster. Her response to me was as follows: “The JD [Josh Duhamel] one? The cliché about the couple who get the baby, fall in love, and have a bunch of funny mishaps along the way?” Allison gets props for this, because it is a very accurate summation of the flick, with the mishap of course being that this film was made. That may be a bit harsh, but suffice it to say, there is nothing very special about this very predictable story. Continue reading ‘‘Life As We Know It’ Is, Apparently, Very Predictable’
