The Soska Sisters:

The sisters Jen & Sylvia Soska (Geek & Badass in Dead Hooker in a Trunk) grew up together in Vancouver, British Columbia, and being identical twins, have spent their lives as a team working together. Their earlier years were spent with a strong focus on acting, but the twins’ interest and love of film had them striving to work on their own sets one day. The opportunity presented itself in fall of 2007, when the film school that the twins where studying at had pulled funding for their final project. Never backing down from a challenge, Jen and Sylvia started production on a piece that they would organize themselves, calling in favours from the friends they had made while working on set for a shock mock trailer titled, Dead Hooker in a Trunk.

They presented their piece at graduation with the pleasant results of half the audience walking out and the other half cheering so loudly that the trailer could barely be heard. The reaction had the girls working on a feature length version and a writer’s strike in the industry had many professionals available to work. Dead Hooker in a Trunk wrapped in February of 2008, with post production being finalized in early 2010. The film and the twins have received rave reviews, in particular, director Eli Roth has become a strong supporter of Jen and Sylvia calling their work “fucking amazing.”

The twins have gone on to compete in short film festivals, including an MTV Tarantino spoof contest in which director Quentin Tarantino chose their piece, Tarantino’s Basterds, as one of his top three finalist picks. They have just finished work on a second feature film, this time a documentary that follows the lives of four of YouTube viral personalities as they strive for success and a place within this new medium of entertainment entitled Please Subscribe. Their next project, as suggested by Eli Roth, is a return to the horror genre in a film called American Mary which the sisters collaboratively wrote and plan to direct together.
