It was like fate when I came home today and received this email. Adam Green’s Frozen film had been on my mind all day and I really just can’t wait to sit down and watch this one already, on Blu-ray of course. Our good friends in the PR department over at Anchor Bay passed along a clip from the Blu-ray extras of Frozen, available on Blu-ray September 28th. For some, that date can’t come fast enough! Rest assured, the cold temperatures will be upon us soon. Continue reading ‘A Sneak Peek at Adam Green’s ‘Frozen’ on Blu-ray’

Here’s a remake of a 1978 classic that was recently brought to my attention over the weekend by Why So Blu fellow writer Gerard Iribe. I seen this titled advertised all over Comic-Con this past July, but totally forgot to look into it. Well thankfully I was able to get my hands on the full press release from Anchor Bay and wanted to share that with you as well as the film’s intense trailer. I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to I Spit On Your Grave this October. Check it out! Continue reading ‘Anchor Bay’s ‘I Spit On Your Grave’’

Ah…my good friends over at Sony Pictures Classics really know how to make my day brighter. Just when I did not think it could possibly get any better (I’m being facetious of course), this press release email comes across my desk. Say what you want about the film, but the fact that Gemma Arterton is the star here has Day 1 purchase on Blu-ray written all over it for me. Check out the full press release, poster art and trailer from Sony Pictures Classics below. Continue reading ‘Tamara Drewe’s Official Trailer and Poster’

For those 8.9 million Disney Channel Movie premiere viewers who made Camp Rock a huge success, here comes the sequel you’ve been waiting for…Camp Rock 2! All of the elements that made the first one so popular have returned – The Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, and a new talented group to round out the cast. This time, a rival Rock Camp opens up across the lake and rivalry develops between them. Of course that means war between Camp Rock and the snobby Camp Star and the returning cast from the first movie are back to help Camp Rock win. Hidden by darkness. Guarded by witches. Discovered by a boy. Stolen by a King. Whoever owns it controls the world. Or destroys it… That was the original tag line to Disney’s 25th animated release of one of my all-time favorite Disney movies. This was such a different kind of Disney film that a lot of people thought that it was too dark, especially after following The Fox and the Hound, but that darkness and the fantasy aspect to it is what made me want to see the movie so badly. It’s safe to say that this is one of the most successful periods for comic books. Not only are there multiple storylines of the same character all taking place at once, but they’re selling out all at once, calling on the writing and artist talent out there to deliver more. Such success has allowed smaller press companies to get their foot in the door and get their high quality titles out to vendors. One such example is the horror-filled Moon Lake from Archaia Black Label. Continue reading ‘Moon Lake Graphic Novel No Placid Swim’

One of Walt Disney’s biggest gambles has to be the much beloved Fantasia. At the time, Disney wanted to bring Mickey Mouse back in a big way as a comeback vehicle where the animation would be combined with classical music selections to tell a collection of different stories. Disney spared no expense to achieve the desired focus on quality and detail and even Mickey Mouse was redesigned to have a more modern and realistic look. Famed conductor Leopold Stokowski volunteered his services for free after sparking to the concept during a chance meeting with Disney. One of the most influential movies of the post-apocalyptic genre, Mad Max will arrive on Blu-ray on October 5. This is the movie that catapulted the career of an unknown Mel Gibson into a box-office draw. In this movie, Gibson stars as Max Rockatansky who is basically Dirty Harry of Australia. Set in a dystopian future, where the civilized world as we know it has ended and societal norms have degraded to the point that gangs openly terrorize what’s left of the populace. Prime Directive: Blu-ray. Robocop will blast his way onto Blu-ray in a Special Collectors set October 5th that will feature, for the first time, Robocop 2 and Robocop 3. The first Robocop film had already been previously released, but the sequels were nowhere to be found. While MGM is packaging all three films here together for the very first time, it’s unclear if they will be sold separately. Either way, this will be a trilogy that all fans of the films will want to pick up. Please check out the official press release from MGM below for all the details. Yes, the hills will be alive with the Sound of Music this November! This is one of my all time favorite musicals (a genre that doesn’t have that many movies that interest me) and I can’t wait for this to come out. Brilliantly directed by Robert Wise, with a stellar cast, great songs and choreography, and breathtaking panoramic visuals, this is the kind of movie that Blu-ray was created for. As the trailer for Takers first rolled some months back, I cringed at the spectacle. It appeared to be a movie of hipness and not functionality. It contained a bunch of good-looking guys who aren’t necessarily known for their acting abilities, but more for their chiseled features. The premise is nothing new. A crew of seemingly capable guys plan the ultimate heist and hit a snag of potentially jail-stay proportions along the way. What could this possibly offer that none of its bank-robbing predecessors have already delivered? Continue reading ‘Takers Gives Back Mediocrity’

Anyone else out there as excited about this title as I am? Well if you are, then you are in luck! Anchor Bay/Starz has announced a November 23rd Blu-ray release date for Gemma Arterton’s kidnapping thriller, The Disappearance of Alice Creed. This one NEVER made it to the theaters around by me and rather than ruin the experience of it by watching it on VOD, I’m going to wait and savor every moment of the November Blu-ray release. Well, not really in reference to the emphatic use of the word “finally” above, but the movie heralded by some as the “best worst movie” ever will be making its Blu-ray debut this fall. It’s official! More of the casting for Marvel’s upcoming X-Men: First Class has been solidified with some names you may recognize, paving the way for the next mutant free-for-all. Fans are ready, though some with warranted skepticism, for this next installment in the series which will actually serve as a prequel in the X-Men movie storyline. With a release date set for next year, the film has begun gaining momentum in the rumor mill, although there are some things we can verify. Continue reading ‘X-Men: First Class Fills Roster Spots’

I can’t tell you how happy I am about this news. Not only has the official teaser trailer for Adam Green’s upcoming Hatchet II been leaked online, but also the surprise announcement Adam Green promised us a month ago at Comic-Con (see here) has surfaced too. Hatchet II will see a limited theatrical release in AMC theaters across the nation. Why is this so important? Well, simply because it marks the first time an unrated film will get a nationwide theatrical release in a big movie chain. Continue reading ‘Adam Green’s Hatchet II Lands in AMC Theaters!’
