Comic-Con 2010: Marvel Studios’ Thor
As I mentioned before, Marvel Studios owned Hall H Saturday night at Comic-Con 2010 and they followed up the Captain America panel with a little film about the mighty “God of Thunder,” Thor. I have to admit, at first I had my reservations about how they were going to pull this mythical film off, but after viewing the trailer a total of two times (yep, they showed it two times), my fears were quickly relinquished. I still have my doubts, but at this moment, they are very minimal. The panel consisted of everyone’s favorite S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent and fellow cast members Kat Dennings (Darcy), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Ms. Natalie Portman (Jane Foster) and director Kenneth Brannagh. The powerful film will hit theaters May 5, 2011. In the meantime, enjoy the photos I was able to snap from the press pit.
Saw the comic-con trailer and am worried.
I thought it should have been grittier like the LOTR films. It’s all polished, and looks futuristic. I’m so not down with that.
We’ll see if it gets better as production continues.
This is definitely the riskiest of the Marvel projects. I have faith in director Kenneth Branaugh to pull it off though.
I will say I also thought this to be the riskiest of Marvel’s works. However, after seeing the trailer of Thor and footage of Captain America, I will say that Cap is now the riskiest. Hugo Weaving is a great actor but his German accent was awful. I will go as far to say that it was worse than Cate Blanchett’s Russian bit in Indiana Jones. As for the LOTR thing, Thor is tied in with the modern world so I wouldn’t expect it to be anything like LOTR. You’re combining a half-god with the technologies of today so you’re not going to see him trapsing through muddy paths and bogs in a world of straw huts.
