Ride The Midnight Meat Train February 17th

Clive Barker fans rejoice!  Get ready to ride The Midnight Meat Train on Blu-ray next February.  Lionsgate Home ENtertainment has announced that they will bring the Clive Barker horror film to the Blu-ray format on February 17th.  The Blu-ray release will be presented in a director’s cut with a 1080P AVC MPEG-4 video encode and a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack.

During this past Halloween, on Time Warner Cable on Demand, they were actually screening the HD edited version of The Midnight Meat Train for free.  You will never look at the subway the same way after seeing this film.  There has only been a trio of extras announced thus far.  Lionsgate has provided us with the following press release information (presented in its entirety below):

The unrated director’s cut of the terrifying horror film The Midnight Meat Train comes to DVD and Blu-ray Disc from Lionsgate.  Directed by critically acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Ryûhei Kitamura (Versus) in his American debut, the film is based on legendary horror writer Clive Barker’s popular short story from his classic Books of Blood collection.  The screenplay was adapted by Jeff Buhler.  Featuring a cast highlighted by some of today’s hottest stars including Bradley Cooper (Wedding Crashers), Leslie Bibb (Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby), Tony Curran (The Good German), Brooke Shields (TV’s “Lipstick Jungle”), and Vinnie Jones (X-Men: The Last Stand), critics called The Midnight Meat Train “one of the most effective horror films of the year” (Cinematical), “destined to become a cult classic as a vicious, brilliant, and disgusting horror film” (Cinema Crazed), “sharp and brutal” (Boxoffice Magazine) and “guaranteed to make you squirm, scream and beg for more” (Bloody-Disgusting.com). 

The DVD and Blu-ray Disc contain frightening bonus materials including the featurettes “Anatomy of a Murder Scene,” – a first hand look into how the grizzly killings from the film were created, “What’s in Mahogany’s Bag?” – a look inside the killer’s tool kit and “Clive Barker: The Man Behind the Myth” – the horror legend shares the origins of Midnight Meat Train as well as presents a never-before-seen tour of his personal art studio and paintings

Leon Kaufman’s (Cooper) latest body of work, a collection of provocative, nighttime studies of the city and its inhabitants, earns the struggling photographer interest from prominent art gallerist Susan Hoff (Shields).  She propels him to get grittier and show the darker side of humanity for his upcoming debut at her downtown art space.  Believing he’s finally on track for success, Leon’s obsessive pursuit of dark subject matter leads him into the path of Mahogany (Jones), the subway serial killer who stalks late night commuters, butchering them in the most gruesome ways imaginable.  With his concerned girlfriend Maya (Bibb) fearing for his life, Leon’s relentless fascination with Mahogany lures him further and further into the bowels of the subways and ultimately into an abyss of pure evil.
