Comic-Con 2010: ‘Battle: Los Angeles’
After getting into Hall H Thursday morning just in time to catch the Salt panel, I stuck around for Battle: Los Angeles, a film I knew absolutely nothing about. However, I’m glad I stuck around as the trailer and clips shown for the film were absolutely bombastic and riveting. I’m adding this to my list of must see films in 2011. It’s basically a story about a Marine platoon fighting off an alien invasion in of course, Los Angeles. Sounds simple enough huh? But this looks like it has the potential to be so much more, almost in the same way District 9 was last year.
Michelle Rodriguez, Aaron Eckhart, Neal Moritz and director Jonathan Liebesman all made the trek to Comic-Con to promote the mayhem.
The film was promoted to the captive Hall H audience as an alien invasion with a myopic view, very first man shooter kind of style. They say it plays like a video game, almost like Modern Warfare or Halo.
Aaron spent some time telling us why he enjoys acting so much as Jonathan was quick to say that they took a lot of Aaron’s ideas in for the film. Aaron said he always wanted to make a war movie.
Michelle Rodriguez said although the bootcamp for the film was very tough, the most grueling pre-production work was the research. Michelle also said she is very much into physical roles (as we can tell).
Neil loved the realism of the script and pondered what would really happen if an alien invasion took place.
Battle: Los Angeles currently is slated for a March 11, 2011 release date.
I don’t understand how Michelle Rodriguez keeps getting these roles. She plays the same character in every movie she is in. My anticipation for this has just lowered. Sorry Brian, I know you love her.
I hear what you are saying, but she likes these roles. That’s all she wants now. A happy Michelle makes a happy Brian.
She seems happy now. She kept fucking up in real life. I used to hate her, because all of her roles were those of scowlers. I hated that. At least she’s in genre films that I like. That, and she looks smokin’ hot in Machete.
I don’t know much about her personal life, but I agree with Gerard on the “hot” part. 🙂
