Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Gets The 4K Blu-ray Treatment This Fall!

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) brings home the landmark martial arts action-fantasy Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, debuting on 4K Ultra HD and returning to Blu-ray October 18th.  The new Blu-ray will be available as part of the Supreme Cinema Series, a premium, limited edition collection befitting beloved cinematic favorites and modern classics, featuring collector’s packaging with the acrylic “Clear Case.”  The edition also includes a 24-page booklet of rare photos and behind-the-scenes detail that will only be available while supplies last. Nominated for 10 Academy Awards® and winner of four, including Best Foreign Language Film* CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON is presented with an all-new 4K restoration and exclusive Dolby Atmos® sound on both the Blu-ray and the 4K Ultra HD releases. The film was fully restored from the 35mm original camera negative, thereby utilizing in 4K the full resolution, detail and color depth inherent in the film. 4K Ultra HD brings the full power of this restoration into the home, featuring four times the resolution of high definition, high dynamic range (HDR)–which produces brilliant highlights, vibrant colors and greater contrast on compatible displays–and Dolby Atmos audio, remixed specifically for the home theater environment, delivering captivating sound that places and moves audio anywhere in the room, including overhead. The Blu-ray will also utilize this new restoration at HD resolution along with the Dolby Atmos audio.

The CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON Blu-ray is loaded with all-new bonus content, including six never-before-seen deleted scenes, all-new retrospective interviews with director Ang Lee, producer James Schamus and editor Tim Squyres, an archival making-of featurette and the “A Love Before Time” music video.

The 4K Ultra HD disc will also include all of the above special features, in addition to presenting the six rare deleted scenes in full 4K resolution with HDR. As part of this special package, both the film and the deleted scenes have an all-new introduction from director Ang Lee; these introductions are exclusive to the 4K Ultra HD disc.

Directed by two-time Best Director Academy Award winner Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain, 2005; Life of Pi, 2012), CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON stars Chow Yun Fat (Anna and the King), Michelle Yeoh (Tomorrow Never Dies), and Zhang Ziyi (Memoirs of a Geisha). Set against the backdrop of 19th century China’s breathtaking landscape, it follows the story of two martial arts masters and repressed lovers (Fat & Yeoh) as they pursue a mysterious masked thief who has stolen the fabled 400-year old Green Destiny sword.

Synopsis:

Two master warriors are faced with their greatest challenge when the treasured 400-year old Green Destiny sword is stolen by a mysterious masked thief.

Directed by Ang Lee from a screenplay by Hui-Ling Wang, Kuo Jung Tsai and James Schamus, and based on the book by Du Lu Wang, CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON was produced by Ang Lee, Li-Kong Hsu and William Kong, with James Schamus and David Linde serving as executive producers.
