Mel Brooks Gets Honored At The TCL Chinese Theatre!
The most famous movie palace in the world, The TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX® honored filmmaker and comedy legend MEL BROOKS on September 8, in honor of his favorite film, Young Frankenstein, which celebrates its 40th anniversary, and arrives on Blu-ray September 9 (Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment). Young Frankenstein easily sits on my list of top ten comedies ever and while Mel Brooks may be a much older comedian than most, I can almost guarantee that we could make you fall over with laughter to this day. Given the chance, I would love to write a much longer piece about Mel Brooks, his films, and why I cherish this man and his work so much. For now, check out images from his traditional handprint-footprint ceremony, featuring Brooks of course, along with his long-time friend Carl Reiner.
For those who need a bit more info, Mel Brooks is the famed director, screenwriter, composer, comedian, actor, and producer famous for a variety of different films and productions, mainly of comedic nature. Brooks may be most known for his film work, which includes such comedy classics as The Producers, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Spaceballs and many more. Brooks is also one of the few people that can announce himself as an EGOT winner, as he has won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony for all the different kinds of work he has been a part of over the decades. Not bad for a short, Jewish man from Brooklyn.
Some other fun facts: Brooks served in the US Army during World War 2. He was married to actress Anne Bancroft from 1964 until her death in 2005. He is best friends with comedian/writer/director Carl Reiner, whom was the other half of their comedy duo, The 2000 Year Old Man. Brooks’ son, Max Brooks, is the American author of such works as The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z, which was a major blockbuster in 2013. Lastly, Mel Brooks’ film The Producers was adapted into a Broadway production, which became one of the most successful shows of all time.
It is great to see this man receive such a Hollywood honor, which literally cements his legacy in stone. (last thing, make sure to take note of the number of fingers Brooks had to make his hand-prints 😉 )
