Nirvana’s Self-Titled, Posthumous, Double Platinum-Selling Album, NIRVANA, Gets Remastered!

NirvanaAnyone that knows me well understands that my love for the 90’s grunge band Nirvana is infinite.  It literally knows no boundaries.  Equally so I would gladly roam this Earth on my hands and my knees wiping up every blood, sweat and tear Kurt Cobain ever shed, that is if he wasn’t taken away from us so tragically young.  You all know the truth right?  He was murdered!  Blasphemy you say?  The proof is in the pudding!  LOL.  However, I digress.  That’s not what we are here to discuss today.  We’re here to celebrate the life and times of Kurt Cobain, his band Nirvana and the legacy they left behind with the remastered re-release of Nirvana’s greatest hits album so to speak.  I can’t believe it’s been over ten years for this one.  It seems like only yesterday I was hearing “You Know You’re Right” on the radio for the very first time.  Ah…memories.

Okay so I’ll ask the question.  What’s not to love about the Seattle grunge band Nirvana?  They’re completely legit because they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.  Depending upon who you ask they’re also one of the most influential rock bands in history despite their brevity.  They sold over 43 million albums worldwide while returning rock ’n’ roll integrity and passion to the top of the charts (toppling Michael Jackson, boy bands, etc.).  And to this day, Nirvana’s legacy lives on as an inspiration to fans and musicians alike over the last two decades–and will undoubtedly do so for generations to come way beyond my time on this blue and green planet.

So here’s the deal whipper snappers.  On August 28, 2015, Nirvana’s self-titled, double platinum-selling (United States) /7x platinum-selling (Worldwide) posthumous collection Nirvana will make its debut on 45rpm double LP, pressed on 200-gram heavy weight vinyl and packaged in a furnace black gatefold sleeve complete with liner notes and a digital download card for 96kHz 24-bit HD audio.  There will also be a 33rpm single LP 150-gram standard weight vinyl edition which will feature a download card for 320kbps MP4 audio.  If that wasn’t enough, in addition to all of that Nirvana will also be released as Blu-ray Pure Audio in high resolution 96kHz 24-bit available in three stereo audio formats: PCM, DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD stereo.  Hell to the yeah, right?  I know!

Nirvana was originally released in 2002 features the rare and previously unreleased studio version of “You Know You’re Right,” the last song the band ever recorded, available exclusively on this compilation.  Also among the 14 classics on Nirvana are1991’s breakthrough “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and fellow Nevermind singles “Come As You Are,” and “In Bloom,” In Utero singles “Heart-Shaped Box” and “Pennyroyal Tea,” as well as deep cuts including “About A Girl” from first album Bleach, “Been A Son” from the Blew EP, the non-LP single “Sliver,” and live acoustic versions of “All Apologies” and David Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold The World” from the GRAMMY winning MTV Unplugged In New York.

I know this is considered double dipping by the studio and I don’t blame any of you if you could care less about a remastered set, but for me this is a way to celebrate the all too short life of Kurt Cobain and honor his music and my ears with some of Nirvana’s best songs sounding the finest they ever did.  To me, that’s a win-win any day.  I’ll take it!  So just in case you forgot over the past 13+ years, here’s the complete track listing on this greatest hits compilation release in order.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.  I was provided with massive-size AIFF files for review consideration and I can honestly say, Nirvana has never sounded better.  Should you choose to indulge, you’re in for a delicious treat folks.  Cheers.
