Oscars – Day 2
Yesterday we laid out an ambitious plan of our Oscars coverage this year. The problem is though, that while you read the stories and watch the video, you are stuck at home while I’m enjoying the Oscar buzz in Hollywood. Doesn’t seem fair does it? Last year, I started the ground work to make it less unfair when I an arranged for the good folks at the ACMC Foundation to chat with my contact at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Yes, I am bragging a little bit and trying to take credit for a great event. But, remember, I did it for you!
Anyway, the year before last I noticed an interesting post on the Oscars.org website while researching my coverage opportunities. The post mentioned this event called Oscar Night America, where the Academy would work with a local non-profit organization to help them produce a fund-raiser around the Oscars broadcast. Since I have had the privilege of working with the folks at the ACMC Foundation, the non-profit fund-raising part of ACMC, I approached them about taking advantage of the program.
They expressed some interest, so I called my contact at the Academy and asked if the ACMC Foundation could create the event for the Greater Cleveland area. After several emails, a formal application, and some follow-up questions, our very own ACMC Foundation was named the official host of Oscar Night America Cleveland, the only official Academy sanctioned Oscar watch party for Northeast Ohio.
Last year was the first year ACMC hosted ONA and it was a bit of a learning curve. Partly because it was a new event, and partly because I was so involved in the planning! This year though, I took a step back and let the great event planners at ACMC take the lead and they have a new and improved event to look forward to. Watch the video story for important information and video from last year’s event.
So, thanks to ACMC, you too can get involved in Oscar night and hate me a little less. We need to thank our sponsors for making my coverage possible. They include: Ashtabula County Medical Center, The Geneva Lodge and Conference Center, Ashtabula County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Carlisle’s Home in the Harbor, Heather Johnson Independent Distributor of Premiere Designs Jewelry, Star 97.1 FM, Whysoblu.com, Magic Oldies 102.5, The Star Beacon, and 98.3 FM-The Bull.
