SDCC 2016: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
In addition to the superhero spectacular, last Saturday Warner Bros. also gave Hall H audiences a taste of magic. Muggles were treated to the trailer for the next J.K. Rowling adventure, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Set in New York during the 1920’s, the trailer definitely shows the glamour and intrigue of a good mystery during the era. With David Yates directing, I’m sure the film will live up to the expectation of adventure and fun Harry Potter fans are longing for.

During the panel an absolute highlight (light being the operative root-word) was Eddie Redmayne. While the audience cheered in delight Redmayne exclaimed, “I want to see all the wonderful people here today! Perhaps if we could just get a little light… Lumos Maxima!” The house lights came on dimly and Conan O’brien explained to Redmayne, “I’ve been here all day and that’s as bright as they get.” Redmayne, unfazed by this, turned to the audience and stated, “well, maybe if I just had a little more help!”
Just then, hundreds of people dressed head-to-toe in 1920’s costume poured into the auditorium and Eddie Redmayne hopped down into the crowd. Slowly, he made his way to the back of Hall H, and with the help of his assistants, passed wands out to everyone in Hall H. All together, the crowd and Eddie cried “Lumos Maxima!” and brought the house lights up to their maximum brightness.
The little stunt was so much fun and gave the crowd something to get excited about. Be sure to check out the trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, hitting theaters this November.
