Culver City, CA (8/5/13) – Acclaimed, coming-of-age comedy THE KINGS OF SUMMER becomes available on Blu-ray™ and DVD Sept. 24 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Rising stars Nick Robinson (TV’s “Melissa & Joey”), Gabriel Basso (Super 8) and Moises Arias (TV’s “Hannah Montana”) join comedy stalwarts Nick Offerman (TV’s “Parks and Recreation”), Alison Brie (TV’s “Community”) and Megan Mullally (TV’s “Will & Grace”) in the uniquely comic tale of three teenage friends who, in the ultimate act of independence, decide to spend their summer building a house in the woods and living off the land. Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (TV’s “Funny or Die Presents”), THE KINGS OF SUMMER first summoned laughs from audiences and critics at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize.
The Blu-ray exclusively features deleted and extended scenes, as well as two featurettes, “Frankly Speaking With Frank Toy” and “The Long Shot.” Both the Blu-ray and DVD come with the “Alison and Eugene” featurette, as well as commentary by cast and crew, including director Jordan Vogt- Roberts and writer Chris Galletta, and actors Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso and Moises Arias.
Synopsis: Three teenage friends – Joe (Robinson), Patrick (Basso) and the eccentric and unpredictable Biaggio (Arias) – decide to spend their summer building a house in the woods and living off the land. Free from their parents’ rules, their idyllic summer quickly becomes a test of friendship as each boy learns to appreciate the fact that family – whether it is the one you’re born into or the one you create – is something you can’t run away from.
THE KINGS OF SUMMER was produced by Tyler Davidson (Compliance, Take Shelter), Peter Saraf (Adaptation, Little Miss Sunshine) and John Hodges (Safety Not Guaranteed, Our Idiot Brother), and co-produced by Robert Ruggeri (Take Shelter). Executive producers are Richard Rothfeld (Take Shelter) and Jordan Vogt-Roberts.
It has a run time of approximately 93 minutes and has been rated R for language and some teen drinking.
