DC Comics Designer Series: Harley Quinn by Amanda Conner Action Figure Set (Review)

DC Comics Designer Series: Harley Quinn by Amanda Conner Action Figure SetWhen DC Collectibles asked me if I wanted to review a new Harley Quinn set, how could I say no?  Sight unseen I said heck yeah I’d be interested.  My philosophy is you can never have too many Harley Quinn’s in your collection/life.  If you’re unfamiliar with my adoration of Miss Harley Quinn, please feast your eyes on the follow two collectible reviews here and here.  She was the best part of last year’s Suicide Squad for me and no matter what DC Comics future movie plans are, whether we will see Gotham City Sirens first or a second Suicide Squad film, Margot Robbie’s take on the sexy, mischievous character already has my movie money.  You can take that to the bank and cash it now, but I digress.  Let’s get started here!

So today we’re gathered here to discuss a set that is comprised of not one, not two, not three, but four Harley Quinn action figures.  They are billed as DC Comics Designer Series: Harley Quinn by Amanda Conner Action Figure Set.  Straight from the pages of DC Comics, the Designer Series line goes full on Harley with this action figure set inspired by the art style of critically acclaimed artist Amanda Conner. The 4-figure set includes Classic Harley Quinn, Holiday Harley Quinn, Super Hero Harley Quinn and Retro Rocket Harley Quinn. Custom accessories for each action figure are also included. Each action figure measures approximately 6.75″ tall.  Find out more by clicking here to visit the official WB Shop site.

For the uninitiated here Harley Quinn (Harleen Frances Quinzel) is a fictional DC Comics supervillain in the Batman world. The character was created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, and first appeared in Batman: The Animated Series in September of 1992.  She later went on to appear in DC Comics’ Batman comic books, with the character’s first comic book appearance in The Batman Adventures #12 in September 1993.  She is the frequent accomplice and lover of the Joker, whom as the story goes she met while working as a psychologist at Gotham City’s Arkham Asylum, where the Joker was a patient.

I can obviously go on and on about the villainous character, her short history and vast fanbase in the DC Comics world, but you didn’t come here for that.  You came here to see this 4-figure Harley Quinn set up close and personal.  And I’m going to be your guide today as we unbox DC Comics Designer Series: Harley Quinn by Amanda Conner Action Figure Set, which is available May 31st here on the official WB Shop site.  They also seem to be sold individually too on Amazon (links below).  Come on!  Let’s get started!

So here we are.  We’re ready to get started.  Amanda Conner -writer and cover artist of the smash-hit monthly HARLEY QUINN series, goes to town on these new versions of Harley—and each comes with its own quirky accessories!  Let’s start with an overall look at these and then will drill down figure by figure.

Upon receiving the shipping box I took them all out and here’s a shot of all four figures below.  Take notice to how they’re numbered.  That’s the order we’ll tackle these in too further down below.

Each of the action figures has artwork on the side of their boxes as pictured below.  The artwork obviously corresponds to the respective portrait of the figure itself.

Each action figure’s box features the same picture on the rear of them (see below) that showcases each of the available 4 different figures.

So we’re about to get into the good stuff now.  However, before we do I wanted to point out the way to remove these from the package is by opening the box from the top.  Each of the boxes have three pieces of tape securely holding the top so if you’re like me and you save your boxes, get your knife or scissors out to carefully cut the tape.

TRADITIONAL HARLEY QUINN

The Traditional Harley Quinn stands at 6.8 inches and comes with a pet beaver as an accessory.   Below is a closeup of the figure still inside the box.

Now that we opened the box here’s the figure as it sits in the tray.  I do want to take a moment to comment how securely and nicely packaged these figures are.  Notice the rear shot below.  Every figure is securely held into it’s plastic packaging by ties around their waists, hands and feet.  Impressive!  You’ll notice this figure comes with a pistol, but try as I might I could not get her only open hand to grip it.  I was afraid of breaking the fingers.

Before we move on I do want to also point out that the cardboard insert inside each one of these figure’s packaging has the same artwork as pictured below.  Also each of the figures contain the same set of instructions (see below) as it relates to any functions their extras may be capable of such as quirting water, noises, etc.

I guess you would say Harley’s extra, a taxidermied beaver named Bernie, has an exploding gut.  Ha ha!  Just squeeze it from its sides and watch it’s intestines expand.

Finally here’s the figure itself complete with a stand that they all come with.  Below you’ll see some shots of the front and rear of the figure as well as an illustration of how flexible the joints are.  I’m really impressed with how the legs and shoulders raise side to side as well as the play in the wrists and ankles of all these figures too.  For your comparison you’ll also see how the figure stands in the real world here as it compares next to your typical sized plastic bottle of water.

SPACESUIT HARLEY QUINN

The Spacesuit Harley Quinn stands at 6.8 inches and comes with a space pizza and space gun as accessories.   Below is a closeup of the figure still inside the box.

Now that we opened the box here’s the figure as it sits in its plastic tray.  Take notice that there is a space helmet to take apart and put on Harley’s head complete with detachable pig tails to put on Harley once the helmet is affixed.  It’s all self explanatory, but beware as the pig tails are very hard to attach and make stay on.  They are very fragile this way.

SUPERHERO HARLEY QUINN

The Superhero Harley Quinn also stands at 6.8 inches and comes with a chibi-style head as an accessory that squirts water.   Below is a closeup of the figure still inside the box.

HOLIDAY HARLEY QUINN

The Holiday Harley Quinn stands at 7.05 inches tall and comes with a hammer and Christmas ornament bomb accessories.   Out of all 4 of these she is my favorite.  I just like the way she looks.  Maybe it’s the cleavage.  LOL.  Below is a closeup of the figure still inside the box.

All in all I am in love with quality of these figures for the overall price of the set which retails at $99 or divided by 4 at $25 a figure.  The packaging alone is worth the price of admission here.  My only compliant is how fragile some aspects of them are like the pigtails on the Spacesuit Harley that are difficult to make stay in and the fact that even with the included stands these figures don’t “stand” very well.  I left them on the table over night and when I woke up 3 of the 4 were knocked over and guess what?  The pigtails were off the Spacesuit Harley!  Ha ha.  Your results may vary.  Below I’ll leave you with a shot of all 4 statues and some Amazon links should you want to purchase them separately.  Enjoy and thank you for reading!
