Puerto Ricans In Paris (Blu-ray Review)

Puerto Ricans in ParisLuis Guzman (The Do-Over, Keanu, Boogie Nights) and Edgar Garcia (How to Make It in America) take the roles of two Puerto Rican NYPD officers on a Paris adventure in Puerto Ricans in Paris, which hit Digital HD on June 10, 2016, and is hitting Blu-ray, DVD, and On-Demand tomorrow August 2, 2016 courtesy of Universal Pictures. The best way I can explain this movie is it’s a dramedy, that tries way to hard to be funny, and just really isn’t.

Film

This film follows Luis (Luis) and Eddie (Edgar), two Puerto Rican NYPD detectives that are both going through their own life problems. Luis has some love problems with Vanessa (Rosario Dawson), and Eddie has problems with his wife Gloria (Rosie Perez). In light of these problems, they are approached by Colette (Alice Taglioni), a french designer whose new designer bag has been stolen before its release.

Look, this film is nowhere near good in my humble opinion.  It tries way to hard to be funny and then serious, which doesn’t work for this film. I will try my very best to give some positives for the film. One thing I do like is the character of Colette (Alice Taglioni) a fashion designer who really puts effort into everything she does. She is the only character in the film that works the way the filmmakers intended. The film has a couple funny scenes/moments, but they happen all within the first 20 minutes of the film, which leaves another hour and ten minutes left of bad writing, and a horrible visual experience.

When I said bad, I don’t mean Vacation bad, I mean Jack and Jill bad. The character of Eddie is literally the stupidest character in a movie I have seen all year: His dialogue is nothing but “I’m not sleeping with her” and weird facial expressions. The only other character other than Colette that I could root for is Luis, he wasn’t atrocious: He had some funny scenes, which made it so I could root for his character.

Video

Encoding: MPEG-4 AVC

Resolution: 1080p

Aspect Ratio:  2.39:1

Clarity/Detail: The picture does not look clear and crisp, it’s very 480p looking.

Depth: The film is immensely one-dimensional, almost to the point of annoyance.

Black Levels: The blacks are very inky, almost too dark.

Color Reproduction: Colors are almost yellow and orange.  It’s a horrible color palette.

Flesh Tones: Again, the color palette makes skin look way to warm.

Noise/Artifacts: This is the only part of the presentation that isn’t bad.

Summary

Overall, Puerto Ricans in Paris is one of the worst Blu-ray presentations I have seen, and probably the most unfunny movie I have seen all year.
