Van Damme’s Kickboxer Punches Blu-ray

Wow!  This is going back in time to some wonderful childhood memories when I first discovered the “Muscles from Brussels,” Jean Claude Van Damme.  Kickboxer was one of Van Damme’s biggest domestic box office hits.  The film hit the theatres in 1987 and I remembered being glued to my television watching the VHS version of this movie over and over again, practicing Van Damme’s every move.  Ahh…to be young again…  Anyway, I am pleased to report that Lionsgate will be bringing Kickboxer to the Blu-ray format on June 16th as a special low priced Blu-ray.  So I would not expect much in the way of any significant extras or bonus features.  The only technical specs published as of yet include a 5.1 DTS-HD MA audio surround track and a 1080P presentation.  Below, please find the full press released issued by Lionsgate on this “monumental” release.  Now, if they can only bring Bloodsport to the Blu-ray format next.  I will be in nirvana.

The action classic that keeps you on the edge of your seat finally debuts on Blu-ray Disc from Lionsgate.  Kickboxer stars one of the world’s most popular action heroes, Jean-Claude Van Damme (JCVD), as a man determined to avenge the paralysis of his brother during a kickboxing championship fight.  The Kickboxer Blu-ray Disc with a newly remastered 1080P high definition widescreen presentation and 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio, fights its way onto store shelves with all-new packaging.

Accompanied by his brother Kurt (Van Damme), American kickboxing champion Eric Sloane (Dennis Alexio, Picasso Tiger) arrives in Thailand to defeat the Eastern warriors at their own sport.  His opponent is Tong Po (Michel Qissi, Extreme Force), a ruthless fighter and Thai champion.  Tong not only defeats Eric, he paralyzes him for life.  Crazed with anger, Kurt vows revenge.  After a crash course in the ancient techniques of kickboxing from Thai master, Xian Chow (Dennis Chan, Seventh Moon), Kurt challenges Tong.  Their battle to the finish, born of lust, power and revenge, will leave only one man standing.
