Race to Your Local Theater for ‘Cars 2’

Disney/Pixar has done it again!  Of course, I’m talking about Cars 2!  Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy are back with a great new adventure for Lightning McQueen and Mater, as they head to the first ever World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car.  This animated feature takes us to Japan and all over Europe in a quest for the top honors in racing.  Most of your favorite characters are back, and the drama centers around Lightning’s and Mater’s friendship, and how strong it really is.  Notably absent is Paul Newman’s voicing of Doc Hudson, but his memory is honored in the movie.  Mater is mistaken for an international spy by the dashing Finn McMissile, voiced by Michael Caine, and that leads to many funny mis-adventures, as Mater is totally clueless as to what people think he is. John Turturro, as Francesco Bernoulli ,makes for a formidable opponent for McQueen, and the racing segments are splendidly well done and I think it goes without saying…fun to watch.

The movie is astonishingly brightly lit and colorful.  3-D projection is absolutely not necessary, in my opinion.  And let’s talk about the children.  The children in the audience, I was with at the press screening, stayed right with the movie all the way through.  There’s wasn’t even a blink of an eye.  Now that’s movie magic!

I will hesitate to say that Cars 2 is better than its predecessor, but it’s certainly an equal match in both the animation and family entertainment values.  And really…all that matters is that I really enjoyed it.  By the way, you also get treated to a pre-movie animated feature by Disney/Pixar featuring your favorite characters from Toy Story.  It centers around Ken and Barbie, who desire to go on a Hawaiian vacation.  It’s good, and of course, it’s always great to see the Toy Story group back in action again.

So what are you thinking about?  Race to the theater this weekend with the family for Cars 2!  Do it!

Interesting, I’m surprised by all of these positive audience reactions. I guess I should see it too!
