Submarine Man

***EXCLUSIVE*** ROCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM – MARCH 18: John Sutton’s Russian Foxtrot submarine pictured on March 18, 2011 in Rochester, England. Sub man John Sutton gets to play with his very OWN nuclear submarine – docked on river in BRITAIN. Fifty years since President Kennedy’s failed invasion of Cuba, John, a manager for the sub’s private owner, reveals the “foxtrot” Soviet submarine faced by the President in a crisis that rocked the world. Seen here on the River Medway, Kent, “The Black Widow’s” torpedoes are now disarmed. But in action the 1,950 tonne submarine used to carry 22 nuclear tipped warheads with the explosive power of the Hiroshima bomb, along with 53 mines. The machine has been used as a museum in London’s Docklands and Folkstone, and is now in need of investors to refurbish and save her from the drink. “This weekend is her 44th birthday as she was built in Russia on the first of April 1967,” explained John, 46, from Cwmbran, Wales.
