Comic-Con Update #12 – Trick ‘r Treat
Hailed as one of the greatest Halloween films of the past 30 years is a pretty significant accomplishment for a movie that has never been released theatrically. If you were one of the lucky ones admitted into Ballroom 20 at Comic-Con on July 23rd, then you already know the appeal Trick ‘r Treat will have on the countless number of horror fans upon its eventual home video release. Trick ‘r Treat tells a tale of interwoven stories that occur one Halloween where a high school principal has a deadly secret, a college virgin might have just met the guy for her, a group of teenagers pull a dangerous prank, a woman who hates the holiday has to put up with her obsessed husband, a neighbor has a dark past and much more. Actually, there are too many plots to list here without ruining some fun surprises, but what’s ingenius about this film is how all the tales eventually tie together.
Before the screening of the film Harry Knowles of Ain’t It Cool News hosted a panel discussion with writer/director Michael Dougherty and stars Brian Cox and Lauren Lee Smith. Sadly, Anna Paquin was supposed to be there in attendance on the panel, but she was out celebrating her birthday that night. Michael Dougherty called Anna’s cell phone and of course she did not answer, so Michael put it on speakerphone and the whole Ballroom 20 audience sang Happy Birthday to Anna. When will you ever get a chance to do that again? The panel mostly consisted of conversations between Michael and Harry about where Michael got the ideas for the film and he even put in a few plugs for the action figures sculpts of the new horror icon everyone will know soon enough, Sam.
As we learned late today, it appears Warner Bros. plans on releasing Trick ‘r Treat October 6th on Blu-ray and DVD. At the time of this writing, there is no Amazon pre-order up as yet. As soon as a pre-order is posted on Amazon we will have the link live on our site.
