Indiana Jones 4 and Star Wars Episode 1 Are Biggest Letdowns

I came across this article today on the web at Dark Horizons that was from a poll taken and assembled over at Total Film and a light bulb went off.  What a conversation starter!  Or at least I hope it is.  Now looking over the list of films below, I’m pretty sure a lot of us can agree on these titles, but come on….Jennifer’s Body is on this list?!  Now that’s just crossing the line.  Anyway, and I mean no offense here Sean with the title above, check out the full list below and if you are interested you can enjoy the full article over at Total Film, but by all means…feel free to comment on this one below.  I’m very interested to hear what everyone else has to say about this poll.  Prometheus even graces it.  What say you, Gerard?

As published on Dark Horizons today:

Total Film has taken a poll and assembled a list of the Top 50 most disappointing movies of all time – films for which there was a certain or even considerable amount of expectation and which, frankly, turned out to be fairly terrible.

Practically every household name filmmaker is on this list – Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Stanley Kubrick, Francis Ford Coppola, David Fincher, Oliver Stone, Peter Jackson, Quentin Tarantino, Michael Mann, Steven Soderbergh, Tim Burton, Sam Raimi, the Wachowskis, M. Night Shyamalan, Ridley Scott, Cameron Crowe, Ang Lee, Zack Snyder, Roland Emmerich, Robert Rodriguez, Kevin Smith and many more.

Topping the list was Spielberg’s “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” with Lucas’ “Star Wars: Episode One – The Phantom Menace” not far behind. Both were returns almost twenty years later to franchises that were the gold standard of many who grew up in the late 70’s and 80’s, and both returns landed with decisive thuds.

Almost all of the entries on this last are since the turn of the millennium (the earliest is 1989), but only one entry from this year so far has made it – Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus”. Some placements seem oddly high, was “Sucker Punch” really that anticipated? Others such as “Quantum of Solace” or “Alexander” deserve to be higher. Here’s the list for your perusal, for the full version with analysis check out Total Film:

I don’t tend to comment in a juvenile manner, but this list is stupid.

  2. Sean Ferguson

If these are the worst movies these losers have seen then they need to see more movies. I am so sick of this kind of fanboy whining and this list is just another example of it.

  3. Gerard Iribe

I’m actually in agreement with Sean and Aaron. I may not like every film on that list, but it’s a really STUPID list nonetheless.

I’m sorry guys. My bad. I noticed the site has been lagging as of late with interactivity of comments so I thought maybe this would stimulate things. After I saw Prometheus on this list I agree with Aaron. How dare they?! How about we talk about something interesting like Apple stock? Wow!

I think the Godfather 3 should top the list. Yes, why is Jennifer’s Body on this list? It wasn’t anticipated. If that’s on here, put Underworld 4 on here because that stunk up the joint.
