MacGruber is Coming to Blu-ray!
Coming to save us all this September is MacGruber! For those of you that may not be familiar with this character which is a take off off MacGyver, it began as an Saturday Night Live sketch starring Will Forte and Kristen Wiig who inevitably have to defuse a bomb in a short amount of time. While some of the sketches are repetitive, this movie expanded the premise and was critcally well received, but it didn’t do as well at the the box office that many had hoped for. The SNL movies are usually hit or miss but this one has Val Kilmer, Powers Boothe, and Ryan Phillipe so it’s already doing better than most of them. I’m really looking forward to reviewing this one! Take a look at the full press release below:
Only one American hero has earned the rank of Green Beret, Navy Seal and Army Ranger. Just one operative has been awarded 16 purple hearts, three Congressional medals of honor and seven presidential medals of bravery. And only one guy is man enough to still sport a mullet . . . MacGruber! Acclaimed as “’Wildly Entertaining” by Slant Magazine, MacGruber debuts on Blu-Ray™, DVD, Digital Download and On-Demand on September 7, 2010 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Both the Bluray™ and the DVD release of MacGruber will contain two versions of the movie – the shockingly outrageous, never-before-seen unrated version, as well as the original theatrical version.
Starring Will Forte (Baby Mama, Saturday Night Live), Kristen Wiig (Despicable Me, Saturday Night Live), Val Kilmer (Déjà vu, Batman Returns) and Ryan Phillippe (Crash, Cruel Intentions), MacGruber is so over-the-top it “makes The Hangover look like Beaches” (Mike Sampson, JoBlo.com). In the 10 years since his fiancée was killed, special op MacGruber has sworn off a life of fighting crime with his bare hands. But when he learns that his country needs him to find a nuclear warhead that’s been stolen by his sworn enemy, Dieter Von Cunth, MacGruber figures he’s the only one tough enough for the job.

This one could go either way. The critics did not mind it, but I find the SNL sketches mind numbing at times, so I’m not sure if I could stand a whole 80+ minutes. This is all yours Sean 🙂 Do us proud!
I’ll rent this at some point. I don’t really care.
It seems like you care 🙂
I’m not a huge fan of the skit except when Richard Dean Anderson is on it just because it is repetitive but I think they expanded it quite a bit so it’s not just that same premise. Plus, a lot of people that I respect really liked it, so I have high hopes. I don’t think it can beat Three Amigos though! That’s a classic! Why isn’t that on blu-ray?
