My personal favorites would definitely have to be Home Alone and the Back to the Future Collection.  Home Alone being another masterpiece from the legendary John Williams.  There’s no doubt that this soundtrack set a tone as to how you encapsulate and combine the child-like whimsy with genuine heartfelt moments that we all associate with Christmas time. Back to the Future on the other hand, written by the incomparable Alan Silvestri, is chock full of those classic 80’s action/adventure themes that many modern composers emulate even to this day.

I’m a little embarrassed to say that I’m not too familiar with the work of Franco Micalizzi work.  Which is a darn shame because I really can’t get enough of that classic “sassy” 70’s vibe.  What with the blaring horns and groovin’ rhythms it’s just something that truly resonates with me on some kind of soulful level!

In regards to the Slasher Film Festival Strategy it was only after I saw the original Dawn of the Dead that I grew to truly appreciate the subtle elegance of the 70’s horror film genre, or as my wife likes to refer to it as “Creep Music”.  It has an odd way of lulling you into this sense of calm and serenity only to rip you out of it with a moments notice.

The music of The Connection or “La French” as it’s also known, transports you right back to the stylish sophistication of 60’s that I’ve only experienced while watching episodes of Mad Men.  But there is also an underlying tension within the music that tells of a story invoking betrayal and criminal intrigue.  Now that is by no means to say that this is some kind of James Bond rip off.  Far from it.  The Bond films usually had a sense of carefree lawlessness whereas this music carries a sense heavy consequence that borders on threatening.

We also have the 50th anniversary release of the soundtrack for Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan.  As mentioned in my initial announcement for this album I’ve been a long time fan of the late great James Horner.  His versatility can only be rivaled by the iconic John Williams himself.  You name it, Aliens, Avatar, Titanic, or Braveheart; these are all scores that will stand the test of time and continue to influence future composers for years to come.

Needless to say, these collections are a must for all Vinyl collectors!
