Oscars – Day 3
Today is the big travel day to the Oscars. We woke up today in Ashtabula County, and before I get to lie down in pajamas to sleep again, we’ll drive to Pittsburgh to catch our flight, land in Las Vegas to rent a car, and then drive five hours over to Hollywood! As I think about the day today, my thoughts turn to the Sunday night Oscars broadcast. I for one am glad to see an old veteran anchoring the show again. And of course, by old veteran, I mean this year’s host, Billy Crystal. Last year, producers opted for a younger couple to host the show, no doubt as a way to lure younger audiences to watch the program.
As I sat in the ballroom of the Geneva Lodge last year (shameless plug for a sponsor) at ACMC’s Oscar Night America Cleveland (another one!) watching the broadcast, I couldn’t help but yearn for the days of hosts who could bring out the class that is Oscar, have the experience to appreciate the stage they were occupying, and appreciates the legacy of an awards show dating back to 1929! I’m giving last year a mulligan and waiting on pins and needles for this year’s broadcast.
I can remember watching footage of the Oscars with Bob Hope as host. Then, growing up, I saw a variety of hosts from David Letterman, Steve Martin, Johnny Carson, Whoopi Goldberg, and even Hugh Jackman control the stage and entertain the VIPs and the viewer at home. Since I have so much respect for the people at the Academy behind the Oscars production, I think we’re in for a treat this year!
We need to thank our sponsors for making my coverage possible. They include: Ashtabula County Medical Center, The Geneva Lodge and Conference Center, Ashtabula County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Carlisle’s Home in the Harbor, Heather Johnson Independent Distributor of Premiere Designs Jewelry, Star 97.1 FM, Whysoblu.com, Magic Oldies 102.5, The Star Beacon, and 98.3 FM-The Bull.
Darn. You got me stumped on those documentary choices too. Lol
