Starz Wraps Up 1st Season of “SPARTACUS: BLOOD & SAND”

Spartacus: Blood and SandI must admit that I am quite smitten by the Starz original series Spartacus: Blood and Sand.  So smitten am I that I actually took time from my busy schedule on Easter Sunday to reach out to their PR people and express how much my wife and I have enjoyed the Friday night programming this winter/spring.  You see, for me to take time out of my hectic schedule to do something as daunting as this means that I really like it.  As my wife will attest to, when I like something I put all my passion and fever behind it and nothing else truly matters.  I simply could not let another day go by without telling Starz how kick a$$ Spartacus: Blood and Sand is.  Why?  It’s really quite simple.  So follow along…

Spartacus: Blood and Sand offers a little bit of something for everyone out there.  For all the male adrenaline junkies that could not get enough of the testosterone action in Frank Miller’s big screen adaptation of 300, then worry no more.  Your prayers are answered.  I am here to save you.  Actually the producers behind Spartacus have saved you.  They have given you a reason to live again.  I simply could not imagine any fan of 300 not loving this television show.  It just can’t be possible.

Second, there’s the women!  If you partake in viewing Spartacus, then you are going to see some of the hottest women to ever grace the soapbox.  And that’s no lie.  My HDTV picture has never looked so good.  I don’t even think Gregg Senko could dispute that claim.  Go ahead and try Gregg!  Speaking of Gregg, check out his interview he did with the show’s stars Andy Whitfield and Lucy Lawless back in January here.  Damn!  If I could have been a fly in the wall during that.  Anyway, let’s get back to the purpose of this paragraph.  Oh yeah, the women!  Nowhere else can you find women looking this fine in a primetime television series, neither in the premium nor broadcast programming worlds.  Just when you thought they can’t make them any hotter than Spartacus’ wife Sura, played by Erin Cummings, comes a new squeeze named Mira (the lovely Katrina Law).  OMG!  And don’t worry women; there are just enough male frontal scenes to counter the strong attraction many males flock to the show for.  I think that may be a big reason my wife enjoys it so much, but I haven’t called her out on it yet.

Anyway, that brings me to my third and final point.  This show rules!  Not only is it action packed and everything a guy could ever ask for, but it also has a real moving story too that’s both interesting and captivating.  I never thought in a million years I would ever dig the storyline once I heard about this show, but I was dead wrong.  I am really into it.  So much, that I don’t know what I will do with myself when the season ends in two more weeks.  The show’s off-the-wall vocabulary fills me with bits of wisdom and new one-liners every week.  Oh where oh where will I ever get an education like this?  Luckily my prayers have been answered.  I am hearing rumblings that the show will return early next year (ala Season 2).  I’m really hoping Starz has something in store for us this July at Comic-Con.  I cannot wait to meet the cast!

As it just so happens I received an email today from the PR folks over at Starz.  Starz is the premium cable network that is responsible for making this frugal guy (me) purchase premium cable to watch a television show (I never thought that would ever happen in my lifetime).  Anyway, they wrote to remind us all that they will be premiering the final 1st Season episodes this Friday and next at 10 PM EST.  Below, please find a synopsis of the final two episodes that were provided to me by my contacts at Starz.  Enjoy!

Spartacus: Blood and SandEp. 112: “Revelations” – Premieres Friday, April 9th at 10pm ET/PT

Batiatus’ (John Hannah) fortune begins to take a turn for the better as Glaber (Craig Parker) returns to Capua to discuss patronage. Meanwhile, Spartacus’ (Andy Whitfield) allegiance to the House of Batiatus is increasingly strained by revelations of dishonor and betrayal.

Spartacus: Blood and SandEp. 113: “Kill Them All” – SEASON FINALE – Premieres Friday, April 16th at 10pm ET/PT

Passions and deceptions ignite as Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) fights Crixus (Manu Bennett) in a match celebrating Batiatus’ (John Hannah) political rise. The fates of Spartacus, his gladiator brethren, and their Roman masters hang in the balance.

Okay, I just finished watching episodes 10 and 11.

My withdrawal symptoms have ceased…for now.

I can only hope they don’t take as long to release this on Blu-ray as has been the case with True Blood. I will pull the trigger on this one as soon as it’s available on Amazon.
