THE DARKEST HOUR

The famous Metro station was used as an air raid shelter during World War II and in 1941 Stalin used the central hall of the station for an address on the anniversary of the October Revolution.  Mayakovskaya Metro Station was named for the Soviet poet and playwright Vladimir Mayakovsky.
