Winter in Wartime Gets a July Blu-ray Release Date!

More so than often press releases pass my desk about titles I seemingly never knew existed or even heard about.  One such title is the upcoming Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Blu-ray release, Winter in Wartime.  Hailed and raved as both a haunting and powerful film, Winter in Wartime will make its Blu-ray debut this summer on July 26th with a Blu-ray/DVD Combo package.  There is no Amazon pre-order info up for this title as of yet, but check out the full press release below for more information.

Culver City, CA (May 16, 2011) – Winter in Wartime, the winner of the Golden Calf Award at the 2009 Netherlands Film Festival as well as Best Actor (Martijn Lakemeier), Best Supporting Actor (Raymond Thiry) and Best Production Design, will be released on a Blu-ray™/DVD Combo Pack on July 26, 2011 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Directed and co-written by Martin Koolhoven, this Sony Pictures Classics film will be available in a Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack and will include “The Making of Winter in Wartime” featurette.

Nazi-occupied Holland, 1945.  In a snow-covered village, thirteen-year-old Michiel (Martijn Lakemeier) is drawn into the Resistance when he aids a British paratrooper.  Michiel’s boyish sense of defiance and adventure soon turns to danger and desperation, as Michiel is forced to act without knowing whom to trust among the adults and townspeople around him.  Wartime’s harsh reality encroaches on childhood innocence as Michiel confronts good and evil, courage and duplicity, and his own burden of responsibility.

Winter in Wartime was directed by Martin Koolhoven.  Written by Paul Jan Nelissen, Mieke de Jong and Martin Koolhoven.  Based on the book by Jan Terlouw.   Produced by Els Vandevorst for Isabella Films, San Fu Maltha for Fu Works and Antonio Lombardo for Prime Time Omroep Max.  Starring Martijn Lakemeier, Yorick Van Wageningen, Jamie Campbell Bower, and Raymond Thiry.
