Wolverine and the X-Men: Heroes Return Trilogy

This is pretty uncommon for our site, actually only the second time we ever mentioned a DVD release, but since Lionsgate was nice enough to provide us with a review copy we happily returned the gesture.  And now ladies and gentlemen…I give you Wolverine and the X-Men: Heroes Return Trilogy.  This newest Marvel adventure sees a DVD release date of April 21st.  Here’s a sneak peek at the action.

Just recently, Lionsgate released three episodes of Wolverine and the X-Men on dvd.  The video quality is pretty darn good if I may say so.  The only way it gets any better is if Lionsgate and Marvel put this release on Blu-ray.  Speaking of which, I’m still scratching my head on that one.  How this did not make it to the finest format in all the land is beyond me, but I digress.  The audio makes sufficient use of your surround sound speakers though some more thump of the sub-woofer would have been appreciated.  I do have to point out one thing I noticed and that was in the artwork of the film.  Wolverine is drawn with this massive upper body and these toothpick legs.  The disproportionate appearance was a little weird and just plain silly.  I guess that’s what happens when you stick with the bench press and give up squats.

The three episodes, all of which are just a hair under 23 minutes, begin a storyline that starts off with a little peace and tranquility at Professor Xavier’s school.  While he and Jean Gray suddenly begin suffering from some extreme mental disturbance, a resonating blast rips through the X-Mansion as well as the school grounds, decimating any structure in sight.  After the smoke clears, it becomes quite apparent that Charles Xavier and Jean Gray are nowhere to be found.  The only trace is a smoldering wheelchair the professor sat in only a moment ago.

Fast forward a year and Wolverine is doing his best to bring the group back together while trying find out where Professor X and Ms. Gray disappeared to.  Did I mention the Genosha billboards throughout the episodes?  That would be Magneto’s island paradise for mutants.  Now you know you can’t drop hints like that and not have adversary-numero-uno not show up in one of the episodes…or does he indeed lay low in this mysterious X-Men saga?   Pick up this disc and check out the action today!
