Hey Rocky fans! Whoops! I messed up. Let me make this official. Anchor Bay Entertainment and The Weinstein Company are pleased to announce the home entertainment release of Southpaw, a story about the ruin, but moreover redemption of a light heavyweight boxing champion who loses everything he loves in the face of tragedy. Academy Award Nominee Jake Gyllenhaal leads the film with an emotional and physically charged performance, along with support of an outstanding cast including Forest Whitaker, Naomi Harris, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Oona Laurence, and Rachel McAdams. So here’s what I want you to do with this knowledge. Read on! I have the rest of the press release down below for your viewing pleasure.
The film, headed by acclaimed director Antoine Fuqua (THE EQUALIZER) and written by Kurt Sutter (“SONS OF ANARCHY”) is about the fight, both in the ring and out, of a strong-willed man struggling to redeem his family and himself. A hard-hitting soundtrack executive produced by Grammy Award® Winner Eminem’s record label, Shady Records, accompanies the film featuring renowned artists such as Gwen Stefani, The Weeknd, 50 Cent and more. SOUTHPAW will be available in Digital HD on October 16, 2015 from Starz Digital before heading to Blu-ray™ and DVD from Anchor Bay Entertainment and On Demand October 27, 2015.
SOUTHPAW tells the riveting story of Billy “The Great” Hope, reigning Light Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World (Academy Award® nominee Jake Gyllenhaal). Billy Hope seemingly has it all with an impressive career, a beautiful and loving wife (Rachel McAdams), an adorable daughter (Oona Laurence) and a lavish lifestyle. When tragedy strikes and his lifelong manager and friend (Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson) leaves him behind, Hope hits rock bottom and turns to an unlikely savior at a run-down local gym: Tick Willis (Academy Award® winner Forest Whitaker), a retired fighter and trainer to the city’s toughest amateur boxers. With his future riding on Tick’s guidance and tenacity, Billy enters the hardest battle of his life as he struggles with redemption and to win back the trust of those he loves.
