Fruitvale Station Rolls Onto Blu-ray In January

Fruitvale StationAll I know is this movie is supposed to be da bomb!  I have yet to see it yet, but all my reviewer friends had nothing but mad praise for this one.  So Fruitvale Station is in my future on the Blu-ray format and now it’s in yours too!  Every step will bring you closer to the edge on January 14th!  Just an FYI…the early digital download window begins on January 7th if you just can’t wait an extra week.  In the meantime check out the full press release below and pre-order your copy today!

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Anchor Bay Entertainment and The Weinstein Company are proud to announce the home entertainment release of the critically acclaimed FRUITVALE STATION. The film premiered to high praise at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, winning both the Grand Jury Prize for dramatic feature and the Audience Award for U.S. dramatic film, the first film since 2009’s Precious to simultaneously capture both awards. It also played in the Un Certain Regard section at this year’s Festival de Cannes, taking home the Prize of the Future award. Most recently, the Independent Filmmaker Project nominated Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan for the 2013 Gotham Independent Film Bingham Ray Breakthrough Director and Breakthrough Actor awards, respectively. The film is also up for the 2013 Gotham Independent Film Audience Award.

The Weinstein Company released this compelling drama theatrically on July 12, 2013, where it went on to earn over $16 million at the box office, making it one of the top ten highest grossing indie films of 2013. Audiences can ownFRUITVALE STATION on DVD, Blu-Ray™ Combo Pack with Digital HD UltraViolet™, Video-On-Demand and Pay-Per-View starting on January 14, 2014.  The film will also be available early on Digital HD January 7th.

Filmmaker Ryan Coogler makes his feature directorial debut with this drama centered on the tragic shooting of Oscar Grant (Michael B. Jordan), a vibrant 22-year-old Bay Area father who was senselessly gunned down by BART officers on New Year’s Day in 2009, and whose murder sent shockwaves through the nation after being captured on camera by his fellow passengers. Produced by Academy Award® Winner Forest Whitaker*FRUITVALE STATION co-stars Academy Award® winner Octavia Spencer**, Melonie Diaz, and Kevin Durand.

In his review for New York Magazine, David Edelstein declares, “FRUITVALE STATION will rock your world – and, if the life of Oscar Grant means anything, compel you to change it.” Jake Coyle of the Associated Press hails the film “a star-making performance” for Michael B. Jordan and the New York Times’ A.O. Scott asserts that FRUITVALE STATION is “a powerful and sensitive debut feature from Ryan Coogler.”
