Sound the “Trouble Alert” and get ready for the bricks to fly when Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League face off against the world’s greatest Super-Villains!

I just recently published a review for the newest film in the Batman Unlimited series in which I mentioned how that was just for kids and there are entertainments in the family animated realm which please both adults and kids.  This new LEGO Justice League feature is exactly that.  While, yes, its VERY much a kids movie, the adults who pay attention while their children are watching should be rewarded with some genuine giggles.

What’s fun about these movies is a lot of the free-spirited nature of them.  The realization that everything is LEGO and the openness to play with that.  I also enjoy the playful take on the characters and the over the top nature to their normal stereotypes.  Also fun are the relationships with each.  Its fun to watch Green Lantern and The Flash sit and try to competitively flirt with an uncaring Wonder Woman.  Then there’s  Cyborg who obsesses over trying to be friends and impress Batman.

With this film you also get a nice roster of super villains to enjoy, and they’re just as whimsical and fun to see play around with one another as our heroes.  Plus, you get LEGO action that feels so innovative and creative with how they come up getting from point A to point B in a choreographed sequence.  All in all, there is really something from many different aspects of super hero / LEGO enjoyment to be found in this movie.  Pick it up for the kids…or hey, maybe pick it up for yourself 🙂

Legion of Doom 4

Video

Encoding: MPEG-4 AVC

Resolution: 1080p

Aspect Ratio: 1.78:1

Clarity/Detail:  The image here is as to be expected; clear, sharp and very lively.  Details of animated shadings and emblems, markings and whatnot are nice and visible at any juncture.  Its a vibrant picture that looks terrific.

Depth:  Some really nice 3-D looking work here on the computer animation.  Movements are smooth.  Objects and characters feel a good separation from their environments.

Black Levels: Blacks are…well…black.  Very solid and no crushing witnessed.

Color Reproduction:  Colors prove vibrant and each one on the palette is gorgeously displayed in the image.  Many shadings and tints fit and reveal themselves quite nicely.

Flesh Tones: N/A

Noise/Artifacts:  Clean

Legion of Doom 2

Audio

Audio Format(s): English 5.1 DTS-HD MA, French 5.1 Dolby Digital, Spanish (Castilian) 5.1 Dolby Digital, Spanish (Latin) 5.1 Dolby Digital

Subtitles: English SDH, French, Spanish (Castilian), Spanish (Latin)

Dynamics:  Wouldn’t it be something if they had a bonus feature on the sound engineering for this movie and the 5.1 mix sucked?  Well, not to fear, this is a very good mix.  Sound effects are full and distinct sounding, picking up every nook and cranny.  Vocals, music, effects are all well rounded and lively in this mix without trampling on one another.

Low Frequency Extension:  Explosions, punches, vehicles and all the action gets a nice boost.  Darkseid’s voice even has a little prr to it.

Surround Sound Presentation:  The front speakers put on a fun full on display of the action that scatters everywhere on your screen.  Rear channels even get involved in the fun.

Dialogue Reproduction:  Vocals are loud, clear and diction is perfect.

Legion of Doom 3

Summary

Justice League: Attack of the Legion of Doom is a good all ages affair showcasing fun for both those older and younger.  There’s some nice inside baseball humor for those that pay attention and gee whiz adventure silliness for the kids.  If you’re into the LEGO style of humor, this is right up that alley.  The presentation of this little movie is terrific, but the extras leave a bit to be desired, though the sound engineering piece is outstanding.  A nice little movie with a nice little release.
