I always love being excited by a new and original horror movie, which is what Oculus turned out to be. I was happy to see the film this past April and did what I could to sing its praises, as it was clever, scary, and well worth the time of those looking for some thrills (Review HERE). The idea of a movie about a brother and sister versus a killer mirror has a level of dark humor/ridiculousness to it, but it actually worked, which is great for audiences that wanted something new. Now Oculus is headed to Blu-ray and DVD. The film arrives on August 5th and is packed with special features. Continue on to learn more about this upcoming release.

Parts Per Billion tells the story of three couples which are forced to make life altering decisions in the face of a disastrous war that threatens to destroy the human race. Inspired and sometimes blinded by their love, Len, Mia, Andy, Esther, Anna and Erik are as flawed and beautiful as any of the billions who are facing this human-made biological disaster.

It’s been way too long between the amount of time that has passed since 2007 when Warner Bros. brought Roman soldiers with unbelievably chiseled pecs and abs into our living rooms on our early adoption HDTV sets during the Red vs. Blu Wars (HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray). Can you believe it has been that long and for that matter has taken this long to get a sequel out to the fans of the wildly insane, testosterone driven 300? I still remember my first theatrical viewing of that feature. It was quite a visual spectacle to behold and take in. It was like the raw pages of Frank Miller’s graphic novel of the same name just magically came to life on the big screen. Were those chiseled bodies real or CG? Hell no! Gerald Butler and the rest of the gang went through some rigorous training to achieve those astonishing physiques. Now it wasn’t all about the awe, shock and gratuitous violence/sex, it was actually a quite entertaining and solid movie that took us on an incredible journey and did not let go of us leaving us thirsty for even more blood and vengeance by the time the credits rolled. After all, our king, as mighty as he was, had fallen. Vengeance was an instant mandate. And now the time is upon us! Ladies and gentlemen…I proudly introduce to you 300: Rise of an Empire on Blu-ray. Although we kind of fell out of touch a few years back, I still consider him my dear friend in the movie business who I strive and emulate to be one day and of course look up to. The man I’m talking about is the man of the hour here, Marcus Dean Fuller. You may know him from my interview with him here and review of his phenomenal debut feature over here. Well the man is back in the producer’s chair this time! Maybe next time he’ll pick one of my scripts (and I’ll keep trying), but for now I am eager as hell to check out Ping Pong Summer. It’ has gotten some rave reviews and unfortunately I was not able to break away from work to check it out during SXSW or else I would have seen it already. With all the big names in the is one and erring on the side of caution (knowing the quality Marcus gets behind), I already have no doubts that this is a bonafide winner! But oh yeah! I almost forgot. This is coming to Blu-ray in August! Find out more below! Continue reading ‘‘Ping Pong Summer’ Bounces On Blu-ray This Summer’

I like when science fiction films – at least ones that look high quality make it under the radar for review. I knew nothing of The Machine, with exception to Caity Lotz starring in the film. She may be familiar to some, because she’s in another show that I do not watch called Green Arrow. Ever hear of it? 😉 What little I did read of The Machine was that it was the second coming of Blade Runner and such. Okay, that’s a bold statement but it did pique my interest. After I watched the trailer I was sold and had to review it for Why So Blu?. Keep reading to see if it’s worth your time and money. Continue reading ‘The Machine (Blu-ray Review)’

I’ll drop an admission, I’ve never seen Scream Factory’s upcoming title, Motel Hell. I do remember it being a staple at most all the mom and pop video stores’ horror sections back in the VHS hay day. I guess I just never got around to renting the darn thing. But, alas, I’ll get to see it in the best possible presentation available aside from a theatrical screening. Motel Hell and I will be making up for lost time come August. Today we get the final specs on the release. Of note, the commentary is moderated by The Hills Run Red director Dave Parker. That’s pretty cool. Keep scrolling down to read all about this release and click to the pre-order button to secure yourself a copy of this must have release from the “Summer Of Fear”! When news of this incredible box set first hit my desk today and later from my favorite PR person in the world I knew I had to get the word out about this at my very first opportunity when it presented itself. That such moment is now! Quite honestly, I don’t know if I would still be writing about Blu-ray if it wasn’t for the magic of the hit Starz show Spartacus and how it touched my life. The show is even responsible for bringing me together with one of the site’s greatest scribes ever, Mr. Aaron Neuwirth. I think I even speak for Gerard Iribe when I say Spartacus is what dreams of made of when it comes to blood, carnage and gratuitous nudity on the Blu-ray format. For those reasons and so many more over the years, Spartacus has put us on the map and I take a bended knee to the mighty warrior and leader. So now, without further ado, I would like to spread the gospel of Spartacus by joining Anchor Bay and Starz in celebrating the following Blu-ray news. Sunday March 31, 1974 is a landmark date in the history of rock music. It is now celebrated in the multi format release of a rare recording made at legendary London venue The Rainbow, of a concert by a then up-and-coming band called Queen. Few who turned up for that iconic performance could have predicted they would go on to become arguably the world’s best and most successful rock group, although many more may have suspected it after this stunning show. Among the unique material contained in this release are over a dozen tracks never previously released on any official Queen live album. The release will come in CD, Vinyl and standard DVD or SD Blu-Ray formats available as standard releases or special limited edition sets as well as digital formats. One of my favorite films of the year: Sony Pictures Classics’ visually poetic love story from Director Jim Jarmusch (Broken Flowers), ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE, will debut on Blu-ray™, DVD and DigitalHD Aug. 19 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film is the apotheosis of American independent film and underground music, full of Jarmusch’s laconic sense of humor. ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE stars Oscar winner® Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton, 2008, Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role) and Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers), alongside co-stars Mia Wasikowska (Lawless), Anton Yelchin (Star Trek Into Darkness) and John Hurt (Harry Potter). Set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangier, this critically well-received fan-favorite puts an original spin on a well-worn genre – these vampires are mature, highbrow and charmingly ultra-cool. Read on to learn more about this upcoming Blu-ray release.
