SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE Drills Its Way To Blu-ray March 18!

Slumber-Party-MassacreAs you could probably predict, I’m very excited about this one.  This is one of the most notable “Golden Age” slasher films of the 1980s.  When doing your research on the era, this one is a pivotal movie to add to your watching.  Scream Factory had originally released the first 3 movies of this series in a Roger Corman box set of the franchise.  Here they’ve been able to find and develop a new HD print of the film that they once had not been able to do.  They’ve brought over the old bonus content and added a new interview to boot.  This is an exciting release, and I’m sure the film is going to look like never before on Blu-ray.  Its nice that like the Visiting Hours/Bad Dreams 2 pack coming in February, these Shout! Factory horror movies are able to cross over into the more appropriate Scream Factory catalog (They also retroactively consider the Shout! released Blu-ray of The Stepfather a Scream Factory title, too).  There are no plans right now to release part 2 and 3 of The Slumber Party Massacre series on Blu-ray, but if the sales of this one do well, then we can be sure that they would definitely start looking into it.  This one releases in March and you can find all the details and a preorder below!

THE SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE (1982) helped define the slasher film ethos of the 1980s.  Put together by first-time director Amy Holden from a script, titled “Don’t Open the Door,” by celebrated author Rita Mae Brown (Rubyfruit Jungle), the film was an immediate hit for Roger Corman’s New World Pictures, eventually spawning two sequels and became a staple in mom-and-pop corner video stores of the 1980s.

When Trish (Michele Michaels) decides to invite her high school girls’ basketball teammates over for a slumber party, she has no idea the night is going to end with an unexpected guest – an escaped mental patient and his portable power drill – crashing the party in the cult classic, The Slumber Party Massacre.
