CULVER CITY, CALIF. (January 11, 2011) – Tamara Drewe, the witty and charming Sony Pictures Classics comedy, arrives on Blu-ray™ and DVD February 8th from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.  Directed by Academy Award® nominee Stephen Fears (The Queen, Dangerous Liaisons) and starring Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) as the sexy Tamara, the film tells the story of a young woman who returns to her childhood village only to wreak havoc on every male in town.  The talented ensemble cast includes Roger Allem (The Queen), Bill Camp (Public Enemies), Dominic Cooper (An Education), Luke Evans (Robin Hood) and Tasmin Greig (TV’s “Green Wing”).

Tamara Drewe is based on the graphic novel written by Posy Simmonds and the screenplay was adapted by Moira Buffini. The Blu-ray and DVD contain all-new special features that include commentary with Gemma Arterton and Luke Evans as well as two behind-the-scenes featurettes that give a closer look into the process of making a faithful adaptation. Alison Owen and Tracey Seward produced; executive producers are Paul Trijbits, Scott Rudin, Sharon Harel and Christine Langan.

Synopsis:

Tamara Drewe is a modern take on Thomas Hardy’s romance novel, Far From the Madding Crowd. The film’s present day English countryside is a far cry from Hardy’s Wessex. Stocked with pompous writers, rich weekenders, bourgeois bohemians, a horny rock star, and a great many Buff Orpington chickens and Belted Galloway cows, the town of Ewedown is a much funnier place. When Tamara Drewe sashays back to the bucolic village of her youth, life for the locals is thrown upside down. Tamara — once an ugly duckling — has been transformed into a devastating beauty (thanks to plastic surgery). As infatuations, jealousies, love affairs and career ambitions collide among the inhabitants of the neighboring farmsteads, Tamara sets a contemporary comedy of manners into play using the oldest trick in the book — sex appeal.

BD/DVD Bonus Features include:

  • Commentary with Gemma Arterton and Lucas Evans
  • Featurette: Reconstructing Tamara Drewe
  • Featurette: The Making of Tamara Drewe
