‘The Sandlot’ Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary This March

This year is the 20th anniversary of The Sandlot, which has an all-new Blu-ray release coming out on March 26, 2013.  The Sandlot is a a charming story about young friends that just want to hang out and play baseball.  There is more going on than that, of course, as we see the boys’ deal with summer activities that include things such as small rivalries, fun at the pool, a baseball signed by Babe Ruth, and a huge dog known as “The Beast”.  This was a film from the 90s that I grew up loving and I still think it holds up quite well.  It is one of the better kinds of sports movies that does not involve a ‘big game’ and instead focuses more on the adventures these kids get into.  The Blu-ray may not arrive until March, but continue on to learn more about this upcoming release.

The Sandlot: 20th Anniversary

“A charming and whimsical comedy about boys and baseball and a GREAT BIG DOG” (“Siskel & Ebert”), THE SANDLOT ranked in the Top 40 as one of the best sports movies ever.  It’s early 1960s and fifth-grader Scotty Smalls has just moved into town with his folks.  Kids call him a dork – he can’t even throw a baseball!  But that changes when the leader of the neighborhood gang recruits him to play on the nearby sandlot field.  It’s the beginning of a magical summer of baseball, wild adventures, first kisses, and fun!
