Zombieland: Double Tap…They’re Back Baby! (Movie Review)
It feels so good to be back! It was 10 years ago when the first film, Zombieland (2009), came out. I went to go see it with a friend or two not sure what to expect. I walked out of that film with such a love for what I was seeing on screen! The cast was great, the sets were awesome, and the humor was in full swing. Now we flash forward to 10 years later, not only in time of the film, but also in real life. I know what you guys are thinking… Does it hold up after all this time. Is this film still relevant? Does Zombieland: Double Tap (2019), truly, nut up or shut up? It nuts up guys… it nuts up.
Zombieland: Double Tap (2019) is an action/horror/comedy directed by Ruben Fleischer, the director of the first film, Zombieland (2009). Zombieland: Double Tap (2019) is written by David Callaham, writer of upcoming films like Wonder Woman 1984 (2020) and Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi (2021), Rhett Reese, who was a writer on the first film, Zombieland (2009), and both Deadpool (2016), and Deadpool 2 (2018), and lastly Paul Wernick, who was a producer of the first film, Zombieland (2009), and both Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018). The film stars Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, Zoey Deutch, Rosario Dawson, Avan Jogia, Luke Wilson, and Thomas Middleditch. Zombieland: Double Tap (2019) is produced by Gavin Polone, who has produced films such as Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999), My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006) and Secret Window (2004). It’s good to see the original cast reassembled, along with a few new additions, to bring some new blood into the fray!
Whew… I know I said a lot back there, but I really want to give these guys credit where credit is due. I may be a little bias because I do love these movies, but what’s not to love. The screening I went to was the first public screening of the film with an introduction and Q & A with Jesse Eisenberg, who plays the character of Columbus in the film, and Ruben Fleischer, the director of the film. Getting to hear about their process through answering fan questions and their own funny behind the scenes stories was priceless. Okay I should probably get back into the review right? Okay guys lets limber up and get into the review!
So what’s Zombieland: Double Tap (2019) all about? Well we pick back up with our original survivors Columbus (Eisenberg), Tallahassee (Harrelson), Wichita (Stone), and Little Rock (Breslin), 10 years later surviving, and thriving even, in the world of Zombieland. They prove to be a well oiled machine when it comes to killing the dead and a loving family when it comes to the domestic side of the apocalypse. Just before creature comforts begin to soften our merry band of zombie slayers old habits among the group seem to die hard and so adventure ensues!
Overall I had a great time with Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)! The cast feel like they just picked up from the last film, despite it being a literal decade since they have all been together on screen. If you are a fan of the film then you will definitely enjoy yourself. Even the new characters introduced to the film seemed to fit perfectly into the world of Zombieland and ever felt out of place. The delivery of lines and comedic timing is always on it in this film! Definitely go see this one with an audience guys… its a great time!
