The third title in Valiant’s comeback has been out less than a week, but Bloodshot is already making some waves with its explosive entry back into the comic book fray. But has the new first issue of this gun-toting title lived up to the hype, or is it just a bunch of overly spoken potential of anticipation and not so much the book’s content? Let me put it this way…

Friday at San Diego Comic Con, within the Hilton’s Indigo Ballroom, Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim had a block of its biggest shows all present panels at Comic Con, including a look at their newest series, the animated TV adaptation of Black Dynamite. I was only able to see the first three Adult Swim panels, which included The Venture Brothers, NTSF:SD:SUV, and Children’s Hospital, but each one was a very entertaining experience. The creators and various cast members were present for each panel and brand new footage, or in the case of the two live-action shows, whole episodes were presented during them. Continue on to learn more about the exciting and hilarious new seasons for each of these shows. I was very happy to be able to catch the panel for Spartacus at this year’s Comic Con. Why So Blu has remained a fan of the breakout series since it first began, and while it will always be hard for everyone to get over the loss of its original star, Andy Whitfield, the show has continued on in providing a very entertaining series that manages to stylized ballets of blood and sexuality, while also delivering on interesting dramatic arcs for the various characters on the show. The latest season, titled Spartacus: War of the Damned, is not due to come out until January 2013, but the panel did have plenty to talk about, with a number of surprise guests and the reveal of the first teaser trailer. Continue on to learn more. Continue reading ‘Comic Con 2012: Spartacus: War Of The Damned’

There aren’t too many television shows that can draw an audience of screaming 7,000 fans to Comic-con to celebrate its tenth anniversary and if there are any, they were most likely created by Joss Whedon. Before becoming the celebrated director of the world’s third biggest hit, The Avengers, Whedon specialized in making awesome television shows that were never given the respect they deserved. First it was “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, then “Angel”, and then most importantly in my book, “Firefly”. Fox’s mishandling of this show is legendary and even when it was still on the air, it was hard to find thanks to it being moved too much and even the pilot for the show didn’t start the show. For a show that had everything against it, “Firefly” still managed to win fans with its fantastic characters, thrilling action, and fantastic humor. That audience grew even larger once the show was released on DVD and Blu-ray which allowed new fans to discover the show that had only been allowed to run thirteen episodes before being canceled. This year’s big event was “Firefly’s” tenth anniversary reunion which served as a touching reunion and tribute as well as vindication for Whedon that the show truly mattered then and now. The third part of Walt Disney Studio’s Hall H presentation on Thursday at San Diego Comic Con was for their upcoming animated feature Wreck-It Ralph, which looks to be a whole lot of fun. Honestly, I have been anticipating this film, since I first heard about it back at the Disney D23 Expo last September, so having seen earlier animatics of this film all the way to now, where so much of it has been fully realized, I cannot wait to see the final product. The story seems to be literally catering to me and a whole world of people who grew up with video games of all types and it only helps that the script seems to be very clever and funny. Continue on to view the trailer and to see a new image that debuted for the sake of Comic Con. Continue reading ‘Comic Con 2012: Wreck-It Ralph’

Frankenweenie continues to be a a film I look forward to. I love the fact that Tim Burton has revisited an idea he first made into a live-action short, but has now turned into a feature-length, stop-motion animated film (not to mention in both Black & White and in 3D). It features a large voice cast that mainly consists of actors and actresses that Burton has worked with many times before, but also seems to have a script that is quite funny in a very humorously dark, but campy sort of way. Not a whole lot of new information was given in regards to this feature, but the new trailer, which debuted exclusively at Comic Con can be found, were you to continue on. Thursday in Hall H of Comic Con was packed already, due to the presence of Twilight fans, as per usual these days, but that did not mean there was not plenty more to see, which included the first look at the newest film from one of my favorite directors, Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead trilogy, The Spider-Man trilogy). I have other posts to get to, in order to properly go over all that was seen during my time in Hall H on Thursday, but why not start off with the trailer debut of Raimi’s latest feature, Oz The Great and Powerful. This is a Disney film set to provide a new point of view regarding the world seen in The Wizard of Oz and written about by its originator, Frank Baum. Fittingly from the producer of Alice in Wonderland, the film is a fantastical adventure, which looks like it could be a fun and unique experience. Continue on to watch the brand new trailer, which debuted at Comic Con, as well as get a look at the film’s poster. Continue reading ‘Comic Con 2012: Oz The Great And Powerful Trailer Debut’

The arrival of a new Ice Age film is not something that initially thrilled me. I enjoyed the first film in the series, but was let down by the sequel, which led to me not even bothering with the third entry in the franchise. Still, given the opportunity to see this latest entry, ‘Continental Drift’, I guess I just felt like taking a break after seeing the angst-filled Amazing Spider-Man and the brutal Savages, and settling in for something a little more light-hearted, before seeing the fire rise in just over a week’s time. Fortunately, I found this latest Ice Age film to be quite enjoyable. While it may be missing a major element that made me enjoy the first film so much, I was still pleased with a good amount of the humor and vocal performances, animation quality (particularly the action sequences), and of course Scrat.
