Universal Studios just announced that they will bring 3 previously released Hi-Def titles on the defunct HD DVD format home to Blu-ray. Ever since Universal swallowed the “blu” pill there has been nothing but near excellence from them so that is why I am so excited about them announcing the release of Children of Men on Blu-ray. What an awesome movie! The other two catalog titles are Cinderella Man and Field of Dreams. All three releases will be presented in 1080P VC-1 video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio.

Fox has just announced that Season 7 of the cult show 24 will be released on Blu-ray May 19th. This is amazing! Basically the season will just end and then be released on the Blu-ray format immediately. Today was a slow day in the world of Blu-ray news so I would like to spice it up a bit with a movie I am fairly excietd for to come out on the Blu-ray format. I may be in the minority here, but nonetheless I will be thrilled to own The Spirit on Blu-ray upon its release date of April 14th. As you can see below, we have the full press release from lionsgate outlining the story of The Spirit and all the bonus features of the exciting Blu-ray release. Who is with me here? Excuse me but I am a little biased regarding this title since my favorite movie of 2008, The Dark Knight, was shunned from the Oscar it deserved. So it really comes as no surprised that the Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire is being rushed to the Blu-ray format to obviously cash in on its recent award success. Fox has announced a March 31st Blu-ray release date for their Academy Award-winning film. Fans will be treated to a 1080P AVC MPEG-4 video presentation and a 5.1 DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio track. Universal’s latest game in theBlu-ray business has been catching up with their past HD DVD releases. With that being said, Universal has just announced the Brad Pitt/Robert Redford spy thriller Spy Games for the Blu-ray format on May 19th. The film was released on the HD DVD format in 2007. This one was a favorite of mine on the lackluster DVD format so I will be excited to see this movie come May 19th on the superior format, Blu-ray of course. As of right now there are no technical specs or extras announced. The HD DVD release was supposedly filled with an abundance of extras so hopefully we will see something comparable on the Blu-ray format. As always, we will keep you up-to-date when more about this exciting spy release is announced.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the horror remake My Bloody Valentine 3D to the Blu-ray format on May 19th. Very cool is the fact that they will include both the 2D and 3D versions of the film and of course the 3D glasses. There are no technical specs announced as of yet. It is rumored to have a 1080P AVC MPEG-4 video encode with a DTS-HD Master Audio surround track. Have a great weekend!

What a way to end the week…with some disappointing news. Fans of The Grudge will have to wait even longer now to bring home one of their favorite horror flicks on the Blu-ray format. We first learned weeks ago that Sony would bring The Grudge to Blu-ray on March 10th. I am sad to say that this is no longer the case. We just learned that Sony will be bumping the release date by more than two months to coincide with the direct-to-video release of the Grudge 3. This puts The Grudge on the Blu-ray format on May 12th. The same extras we announced before will be present on the Blu-ray release. We will see a 1080P VC-1 video encode, a 2.35:1 aspect ratio and a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround track. Continue reading ‘The Grudge Over The Blu-ray Release’

Here’s one movie I am kind of interested in checking out, but scared at the same time. I am talking about Punisher: Warzone, but of course. I liked what I saw last year at Comic-Con, but did not like what I heard from friends that went to its theatrical presentation. Well I guess if there is ever a better way to experience the movie it can’t beat the Blu-ray experience. At least that is what I am hoping for. Lionsgate will bring the Rated-R film to the Blu-ray format on March 17th with their bombastic 7.1 DTS HD Master Audio surround mix. Please find the complete press release from Lionsgate for the Blu-ray release of Punisher: Warzone.
