SDCC 2016 – Dreamworks’ “Trolls” Panel!

San Diego Comic Con 2016Chris Hardwick hosts DreamworksTrolls Panel featuring directors Mike Mitchel and Walt Dorn and the stars of the film Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake. You might remember the directors from their work on the Shrek films. They explain how they took on the responsibility of creating the world and origin of the Trolls. A task that they were all too delighted to take on. Based on the two clips they showed, you can tell that this isn’t just a studio’s attempt to cash in on a popular toy of the past. That they wanted to make a real honest to goodness story. And as cliched as it sounds, this really is the kind of movie that both kids AND adults can have fun with. It has plenty of action and adventure for the kids plus the comedy is deftly written that it actually had me laughing in way I usually reserve for movie Judd Apatow movies!

Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut (4K UHD Blu-ray Review)

Watchmen The Ultimate Cut 4K UHDThis review is going to be a challenge for me.  You see, I’m not the world’s biggest Watchmen fan by any means.  The limited comic series of the same name bores me.  I also know how devastating that must be to read in the third sentence of a review.  However, let the record show, I’ve always been a fan of Zack Snyder’s movie adaptation of the property.  After all, it’s what paved the way for Rated-R superhero flicks like Kick-Ass or this year’s Deadpool to even exist.  How can you not love it?  It ingeniously integrates three classic genres into one cohesive, albeit long film.  Those of course are science fiction, superhero and what movie aficionados would brand as noir mystery.  Luckily for me, and for all you fans out there, Warner Bros. brought this big, bold adventure to the brand-new HD format, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.  I can’t be anymore excited about it!  I’m ready to begin here! Forgotten Friday Flick – “Cashback”

Forgotten Friday FlickStill feeling somewhat misty-eyed and romantic it seemed right to turn to the Brits this week for a cinematic story about beauty that keeps past foreign film relations rolling – welcome to Forgotten Friday Flick!  Today we’re celebrating the magnificence of women with a movie that captures the female essence in all its glory.  And while it does feature some exposing of the female form in the name of artistry, strength and spirit are fully present as well.  Ladies and gentleman the film that both myself and Mr. Skin put on our Top Ten Films of 2007 (for very different reasons of course!)…Cashback!

TMNT Don Vs Raph (Comic-Con 2016)

maxresdefaultJhonen Vasquez directed a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles short and if you haven’t seen it your missing out on perhaps the funniest six minutes of animation I’ve seen in a long time. I’m really hoping this will evolve into something beyond a single short but for now this is the best Invader Zim fans could hope for. Continue reading ‘TMNT Don Vs Raph (Comic-Con 2016)’

SDCC 2016: Battle Worn Sphero BB-8

Comic-Con LogoWho knew the Sphero remote control BB-8 could get any better? It still is controlled by the smartphone app, but it now has the look of battle to it. The days of happiness are over for our friend. His exterior isn’t as polished as it once was. Oh yes, he has some stories to tell. He’s seen sights that are so horrible he can’t even get all the beeps out. It’s okay though, cause he’s still adorable. Who cares that he’s emotionally scarred?!?

Teamwork & Visuals Push ‘Star Trek Beyond’ Just Another Day In Space (Movie Review)

stbteaserclouds1-shtThis new series of Star Trek films should ideally have been my gateway into getting a better feel for the series. The J.J. Abrams films were not without merit, but even with a changing of hands to director Justin Lin, I seem to still be largely unmoved by what this franchise has to offer. The spectacle is certainly there, the cast is strong and an emphasis on adventure keeps things fairly lighthearted, but as Star Trek Beyond came to it conclusion, I feel like I am just going to have to be resigned to entertaining the existence of these films more than I actually enjoy them.

SDCC 2016: Wonder Woman Costumes

Comic-Con LogoLast year, the DC Booth had some pretty amazing costumes and props they displayed for Batman v Superman. This year, I was really hoping they would have some things for Justice League. No luck, although they did share some fancy outfits from Wonder Woman. Unlike the Suicide Squad toys, there really aren’t any spoilers here.

‘Lights Out’ Keeps Horror Costs Low (Movie Review)

lights out thumbThere is something quite refreshing about Lights Out. Based on an effective 3-minute horror short, the film’s concept relies on a simple gimmick and seems to borrow a bit thematically from The Babadook in an effort to make a studio-friendly horror film. While there are ways this film could have gone off the rails and even some questionable logic moments, the film actually does good by its characters, with enough fuel to make this an 80-minute horror feature worth the time.

Super Pro K.O. Volume 3: Gold For Glory (Comic Review)

super pro ko vol3 160x160When I was in junior high, all my friends were into wrestling. Stone Cold Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, The Rock, and Goldberg were all familiar names to me, but I never watched the matches. I was informed at an early age by my parents that wrestling was fake and I should stay away from it, and so that nugget of information was firmly planted in my brain as I watched my naïve friends prance around at recess and perform backyard wrestling moves on each other like monkeys drunk on banana daiquiris. I tried telling them that I had it on good authority that it was fake, but they weren’t having it. Continue reading ‘Super Pro K.O. Volume 3: Gold For Glory (Comic Review)’
