The 33 (Blu-ray Review)

When I first saw of this film’s title, I thought, “Wow! A movie about the Freemasons!” However, that was not the case. The 33 is in fact a film about the horrible Chilean mine collapse that took place in 2010, trapping 33 miners in its depths (200 stories down, to be exact). While these hard-working souls went into the belly of the earth to literally do the dirty work of others, it was an unbreakable bond that would soon forever bind the group of men as they attempted to survive being buried alive.

I’m Just Not That Into ‘How To Be Single’ (Movie Review)

how to be single thumbThere is something to be said for how close to good the otherwise messy How To Be Single is. Taking a sharp turn from last year’s Valentine’s Day weekend release starring Dakota Johnson, Fifty Shades of Grey, here we have a film that manages to settle down every now and then to provide some genuine laughs and endearing moments. The film is sadly too cluttered and lacking in much depth beyond anything that can’t be explained in a self-gratifying ending voice-over monologue, but it does have its moments.

‘Zoolander 2’ Doubles Down On The Dumb (Movie Review)

zoolander 2 thumbAnother year, another sequel to a cult-favorite comedy. 15 years after Zoolander served as a light and silly comedy to help people laugh again, following the 9/11 tragedy that occurred weeks earlier, we now have Zoolander 2, which is severely lacking in laughs. The film is full of cameos and gags, but the idea of making things bigger and wilder only goes so far when the foundation is so weak and the jokes are so dull.

‘Spectre’ (Blu-ray Review)

spectreAsk and you shall receive. After three films in the Daniel Craig era of James Bond that each ended with us believing the character had become the Bond of legend, Spectre decides to put its foot down and throw us into a classic adventure with 007. Sure, the film is still playing with a somewhat grounded sense of reality that comes with the territory of modern action filmmaking, but this globe-trotting adventure is full of all the explosive action that is bound to come with a $250+ million price tag. The only question is whether or not its hefty cost and extended run time were worth it.
