Trainwreck — Unrated Edition (Blu-ray Review)

Trainwreck BD Box ArtAmy Schumer has likely had many of her comedy dreams come true this year. She won an Emmy for her work on Inside Amy Schumer, went on a high profile comedy tour, which included a live performance at the Apollo Theater that turned into an HBO special directed by Chris Rock and wrote and starred in a critically acclaimed feature film. Trainwreck is not breaking the mold of comedies, but it is quite enjoyable, with all sorts of great comedic moments. Fittingly, the Blu-ray is packed with extra material, so read on to learn more about this 2015 summer rom-com.

Blood And Lace (Blu-ray Review)

Blood-and-LaceShe searched through the dark corridors of the unknown, only to find… the unbearable. Available for the first time on a home entertainment format, the 1971 cult favorite Blood and Lace is a twisted tale of horror frequently cited as a precursor to the slasher films of the late 70s and early 80s. On November 24, 2015, the long-lost film released theatrically from American International Pictures is finally available for horror fans on Blu-ray + DVD combo pack, complete with bonus features including a brand new high definition transfer and new audio commentary with film historian Richard Harland Smith.  With borderline insane plot twists, and some unexpected performances by two faces familiar to fans of classic sitcoms – Vic Tayback (“Mel” from Alice) and Len Lesser (“Uncle Leo” from Seinfeld) –  this little-known horror gem is a jolting, terror-filled thriller you’ve got to see to believe. ‘Spectre’ Is The Same Old 007 Spectacle

SpectreIn the event that you like numbers like I do, try this on for size.  Spectre is the twenty-fourth James Bond film.  That’s important because twenty four is an even number (also the name of a once great television show) and you can divide it by two.  Haha.  I have no idea where I’m going with that so let’s move on.  What’s even more important than the useless trivia information I just armed you with is the fact that Daniel Craig is back in the titular role and once again we have a whole lot of continuity to play with in the Bond universe.  Despite not being the biggest fan of Skyfall (I have my reasons), continuity is very important in my life and within the movies I decide to view, but I digress.  Let’s talk some Spectre! THE DUNGEONMASTER & ELMINATORS Double Feature Blu-ray Coming From Scream Factory December 15!

Dungeonmaster-EliminatorsScream Factory presents a double dose of science-fiction fun with The Dungeonmaster & Eliminators in their Blu-ray  debuts on December 15, 2015. This release comes complete with a new interview with director Peter Manoogian.  Call me crazy, but I’m actually very excited for this release.  Both are pretty culty schlock classics that deliver in the best ways.  I have been hoping and anticipating Scream Factory to upgrade The Dungeonmaster, and the double feature releases back this summer that promoted a handful of the titles that shared a previous 4-movie marathon release to Blu-ray.  And now, here it is.  Looks like The Vagrant and Contamination .7 (Also known as one of the fake Troll 3 film) are just sitting waiting for a double feature now.    I’m pretty sure nobody really cares if What’s the Matter With Helen? ever makes the jump.

Hidden (DVD Review)

Hidden (DVD Review)A family has been hiding in an underground bunker for almost year as they live in constant fear of a dangerous entity that lives on the surface.  The story takes place in the small town of Kingsville.  Though they never really tell you which State it is, Alexander Skarsgard does try to effect a bit of a southern accent that sounds somewhat Virginian.  This is the kinda movie that relies pretty heavily on the big reveal of it’s titular villain.  And being that this is such a small film, there isn’t too much that I can say without spoiling it.  This is probably one of the smallest Sci-fi films I’ve ever seen.  And by small I mean most of the movie takes place underground in a space the size of two living rooms pushed together! Roar (Blu-ray Review)

RoarOn November 3rd, Olive Films will release on Blu-ray Noel Marshall’s sole––and career-derailing––directorial effort, the notorious 1981 family affair with big cats, Roar (1981).Produced over the course of ten years, Roar is an audacious cinematic experiment: a thriller showcasing the majesty and ferocity of African lions, filmed on location amidst dozens of actual untrained cats. Photographed by Jan De Bont (d.p. of Die Hard and director of Speed ), the result i s a spectacular achievement — though often terrifying to watch — as actors (not stunt men) flee, wrestle, and come face – to – face with the massive hunters.  Not surprisingly, many members of the cast and crew suffered injuries during the making of the film though care was taken to ensure that no animals were harmed. Since filming Roar , Hedren has become an advocate for the protection of big cats, founding the Roar Foundation and the Shambala Preserve. Continue reading ‘Roar (Blu-ray Review)’

The Gift (Blu-ray Review)

The GiftIt’s going to take me awhile, but I’m sorry.  Every time I hear the movie title The Gift my mind instantly thinks of Sam Raimi’s 2001 film featuring the likes of Cate Blanchett, Katie Holmes, Keanu Reeves, Giovanni Ribisi and Greg Kinnear.  I keep having to tell myself it’s 2015 and movie titles are allowed to have the same name as others that have come before it.  Is it unoriginal?  Hell yes it is, but we have a new player in town and lately producer Jason Blum (The Purge and basically every other horror film out there in recent years) is a force to be reckoned with because the dude is walking on water.  He can do no wrong!  Of course it doesn’t hurt when your film features the talents of Jason Bateman and Joel Edgerton too, but I digress.  We’ll talk more about those two down below.  Ladies and gentlemen, I present to my gift to you…The Gift Blu-ray review. Vacation (Blu-ray Review)

VacationBelieve it or not, July 29th’s Vacation is actually the fifth theatrical and the seventh total installment of the National Lampoon’s Vacation series.  However, that stat does little to phase or impress me.  While I loved some of the earlier National Lampoon’s Vacation movies, the trailers for 2015’s Vacation absolutely rocked.  So much so that I felt if a trailer can elicit that much laughter from me, I just have to see the finished product and ensure there are still some good, unexpected laughs to be had with the feature.  And that ladies and gentlemen is why we’re here today to discuss in-depth the merits and hopeful laughs of Vacation.  And I know this is digression, but God I could really use one (referring to the very real dictionary definition of the word vacation).  Haha.  Life’s definitely not a beach for me.
